Your captains on this voyage de l'âme intergalactique are the bossman Damon himself and his right-hand navigator Darlyn Vlys. Arm-in-arm they team up for three remarkable planet-bouncing adventures, starting with ‘Phénomène’. A butt-shaking, blunt-smoking space disco freak-out, complete with electro-style roboticised vocals, this isn’t just a track – it’s a window into a new dimension. And it comes complete with a killer return trip remix from the Adana Twins.

‘No Flash’ follows. Instantly striking with its loose, swinging off-grid drums and scorching rocket booster synth splashes, there’s 23rd century Italo flavour as we zoom deeper and deeper into the aether before ‘UFO’ brings the EP to an astounding climax. Less of a ‘UFO’ sighting and more of a full-bodied feeling, these are otherworldly flavours on an Area 54 level: in just six minutes the French duo traverse their entire sound palette with aplomb. Big crunchy synths on the intro, hip-slinging bass guitar on the drop and lavish extra terrestrial synth flares, ain’t nobody phoning home when this is playing.

Speaking Minds & Amarcord make a welcome return to AEON with the Cosmic Friday EP, a moving five track release that features stunning remixes from scene heavyweights Fort Romeau and Moscoman.
“‘Cosmic Friday’ comes from the attempt to merge Krautrock influences with a blade runner-esque vibe while keeping the structure of a modern dance music record. ‘Drums & Oscillators’ instead is simply what the title recalls: a live session made with a Korg MS-20 recorded on a single take which remained unchanged. With the night drive mix the record has been turned into a slowly burning acidic tune for the darkest night drives.” Speaking Minds & Amarcord.
Cosmic Friday begins the EP powerfully, as a synth filled bassline rolls up and down before ethereal pads lead into rustling hi- hats. Fort Romeau’s Humanoid mix of the title track comes next, featuring distorted keys that pave the way for a moving piano chime, before Drums & Oscillators ratchets up the pace with subtle pulses and vibrating basslines. Moscoman’s Remix of Drums & Oscillators is another powerful dance number, as a chunky, wobbling rhythm is complemented by emotive violin calls, whilst the Night Drive Mix rounds off the EP with breakbeat-esque percussion and a penetrating acid solo.
Speaking Minds is a founding member of AEON alongside Alex Niggeman and Denis Horvat. Fellow Italian Amarcord is no stranger to the scene, having teamed up with Speaking Minds on the Mermaid’s Chant EP released on Canadian imprint My Favourite Robot Records. Esteemed record enthusiast Fort Romeau has produced standout releases for the likes of Running Back and Spectral Sound. Moscoman is the proprietor of respected imprint Disco Halal, and is a prolific producer and remixer, releasing on labels such as ESP Institute and Life and Death whilst similarly remixing the likes of Man Power and Bawrut.

Ferrari - Jungle Boogie EP

Earlier this year we were happy to release Ferrari’s first ever track on AEON; a crafty remix of Alex Niggemann’s ‘Rise of the Machines’. Towards the end of November, the Italian producer’s ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP will brighten up the darker months of the year. Ferrari wrote the record during Italy’s strict lockdown evenings and first days of easing the restrictive measures, which created a sound of both frenzy and relieve.
The record’s title track creates expectations, which it meets, but not in the exact way you expected it. ‘Jungle Boogie’ starts with native percussion rhythms, but swiftly evolves into a fever dream with altered bird sounds that create an extraterrestrial impression. While female vocals are trying to get to you, you get lost more and more in the acid jungle Ferrari created. While the animals celebrate the temporary absence of mankind.
‘Trancektor’ immediately spirals down towards even deeper parts of your unconscious. This time, however, the world you find yourself in feels more like an 80s arcade game. Circling, Italo disco- inspired synths swirl around you as the spatial sounding beat runs on.
The third track on the EP, ‘Tellurico’, is an uplifting tune with forceful keys that push you forward. The choir hypnotises this song’s listeners all the way to the end.
The closing track of the ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP brings you into calmer waters, allowing you to recover a bit from your little journey. However, ‘Freakin’’ intensifies as it goes forward elevating you one last time.
AEON invited Whitesquare - well known from his releases on Dj Tennis infamous „Life & Death“ - to rework ‘Jungle Boogie’s title track. He silenced the birds, but the trippiness of the track stays, while some new tropical animals enter the stage.
This storytelling EP of five tracks shows some excellent curatorship of the Berlin-based label.

We are all the product of our influences and there is no substitute for experience. Damon Jee is the embodiment of that statement. Over the last 20 years he has carved a career in a very unassuming way, unintentionally writing an exciting new chapter for the global electronic music scene. He is the journeyman who managed to shine brighter by staying true to himself, a musical alchemist experimenting with different sounds to create a deadly new potion. Today, the producer is considered the main exponent of a fresh and exciting new scene many are calling Dark Disco. 

Getting his start in the studio alongside fellow Frenchman Olivier Giacomotto, the duo became main players on the then booming electro house scene with an impressive run of productions on labels like Definitive and CR2. As he started producing more solo works, Jee naturally veered towards his rebellious heritage growing up on nineties rock and industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies, Nirvana and more. The organic appeal of live rock seeped into his productions: distorted guitars gliding atop fat, off-beat and two-fingered picked bass, all framed within a foundation of percussion and drums that carries Damon Jee’s immaculately engineered and distinct sound. The music he released under his NOZZ moniker is especially steeped in this unique and heavy-duty sound: powerful productions which doubles up as heat seeking missiles aimed straight at the heart of any dancefloor.

It was his remix of Pardon Moi’s ‘Power to the People’ that really pushed the affable Frenchman to  a wider audience. It has it all: trance melodies and cosmic chords, a confidant rock stomp coiled with electronic euphoria, and robotic vocals gleefully riding a wave of energetic drums. It received support from the world’s best tastemakers including Solomun, Job Jobse and HAAi, introducing Damon Jee to a brand new audience. 

Today his singular sound can be heard on the underground’s most sought-after labels including Roam, Hafendisko, Suara and Sincopat to name a few. Huge support came in the form of Jennifer Cardini who signed his massive three track Chamaniac EP to her Correspondant Records. Its appeal reaching wide, the EP received support from various corners of the electronic music sphere with a diverse group of DJs from Andrew Weatherall to Chris Liebing to Joris Voorn all getting around it.

The natural evolution of Damon Jee has lead to the recent launch of his label, Critical Monday. The new imprint will explore Damon Jee’s idiosyncratic sound even further. The first release under his Holographic Planes moniker, alongside producer Alvaro Cabana, is a three track dance floor bomb featuring an equally effective remix from Jennifer Cardini. With upcoming releases from Curses, Autarkic, Fairmont, and, of course, Damon Jee, the label is set to become a go-to for those looking to ignite any dancefloor.
