Noumenal Loom Records is excited to announce the release of Neotropical, a posthumous curation of the work recorded 2014-2017 from Colin Ward’s Killd By series. We were working closely with Colin Ward at the time of his passing, but with the generous help of his friends and family we were able to see the release through. Colin was an integral member of the Rhinoceropolis artists collective in Denver, CO, where he lived and worked. Across his work in the visual and sonic arts, Colin was highly adaptable - shapeshifting between various genres and mediums at all times. Neotropical further hones the familiar vocoded vox, featherweight synths, scattershot drums and icy timbres found on previous albums, such as: EMT, Recovery & DDR3:Loaner phone. We feel that Neotropical presents with a great deal of lucidity and cohesion. Smoldering FM synthesis and endlessly arching arpeggios hold the listener above the ground. Neotropical thrives in the club and the home. All proceeds will be donated to the “CRFW Fund” which provides DIY artists’ grants in Colin Ward’s name. We feel very honored for the small role we are able to play in promoting a piece of Colin’s prolific & generous output.

Colin Ward (1990-2018) was a musician, visual artist, prolific collaborator and a champion of the Denver DIY space Rhinoceropolis. Ward produced close to 100 full albums of music, composed for theater & film. He was a talented instrumentalist, beginning with percussion and branching out to various electronic and acoustic instruments. Alphabets, Tudaloos, Dj POoLsiDe, phonebooks, Bangplay, Snake Feathers and Chamber Joy are just a few of his projects. His visual artwork included painting, mixed media and video. There’s no simple way to wrap Colin’s work in a neat package - understanding the breadth of his output requires a deep dive into the world he built. Aperture is the debut album from Hyph11E.

Holes are ontologically parasitic - they are always within something else and cannot exist in isolation. Holes accompany us throughout our lives, dilative and devoured, fillable but indispensable. On one hand, they are the driven force for evolution, on the other hand, holes are also the layer of scab that signals growth. Without tearing, cutting and gluing, we cannot create or eliminate a hole. Topologists use the number of holes to distinguish geometric objects. In the same method, in the closed circuit of Encrust and Erosion, we became idiographic individuals.

In her new album, Hyph11E guides the light to travel within and through the hole, and it becomes Aperture.
