Kitten II

Six months after releasing the 'Half Light Half Dark' EP, our fellow NY-er and usual suspect here at Delayed, Aspetuck, releases a remix package. The release features incredible talent from around the globe like Adam Strömstedt, Ben Kaczor, Jónbjörn, Sanguine, Forest On Stasys, and Caldera. Each track gives a new life and unique take on Aspetuck's already exceptional originals.

Our premiere for today comes from Lyssna Records founder and KANN affiliate Adam Strömstedt. Adam creates rich atmospheres and complex rhythms that work in perfect balance in his productions, and we see that recipe works magic once again in his take on 'Holding Pattern.'
The track is driven by carefully constructed broken rhythm layered with warm, cosmic pads, which lead to a signature moment of this journey when melancholic minor piano chords create a 'call and response' effect with a catchy tom sequence. This remix is an ideal soundtrack for sunny mornings on a fog-filled dance floor.

The 'Half Light Half Dark' remix package is coming out on March 25th on Bandcamp.

The  Shadow Locked EP hits off with smooth, driving use on A1 Shadow Locked.  The dynamic, harmonious succession of sounds griping to rhythmic baselines evokes a profound funky, dane into the night kind of feeling.  A2. Kraftwerk am Strand is wonderfully playful track whose sensitivity to the beautiful female vocals.  B1, Theory of 3/4/3 Aplha is a pure Techno Soul track whose origins must be in the depths of the soul, warm dance grooves which remind  us of the heavenly Mode M (Void Records, GB) although Dan’s music can’t be so easily compared.  His style is very much his own. Distinctly Curtin. The futuristic Track B2, You’re so Dirty, is a self generating cleverly composed soundscape which reinvents itself through clear, driving beats.  The vinyl comes full circle with an exciting and funky vision of the future in which Dan Curtin, in terms of dance music, clearly shows he’s in a class of his own.

SSR Records was run by Crammed Discs chief Marc Hollander and Minimal Compact singer Samy Birnbach aka DJ Morpheus. It spanned the nascent years of house, acid, rave, trance, new beat, hip-hop, future jazz and broken beat, collaborating internationally and racking up close to 200 releases until it was put to sleep in 2002. Far ahead of their time, SSR Records released music of both European and North American artists that hadn’t broken through yet.

Belgian labels Hi Scores and Crammed Discs have just released “SSR Records: In Retrospect”, a 2LP compilation album that wishes to highlight the immense legacy of the Brussels based label SSR Records.
