I put out all the stops!  This is special because I remember listening to Kansas preteen and thinking, "I wish I could play and sing like that!" Photography is by Lark Mack.  I thought it was perfect for this song in many ways. First, this guitar is actually part of the recording. Second, She made the guitar seem to float while in it's case.  I had the strangest feeling it was like a coffin.  It is up to the listener to decide if it's going in or fighting it's way out. Decisions decisions. This is also one of the first recordings I used my "Music Man" 5-string Bongo Bass (Love it!) For the rest of the guitars I used a Music Man JP signature (My fav!) Some tracks were direct in and tweaked post production. Others I used a Line6 Helix. This was always a fun tune and I really loved the message.  We are all "wayward" to God. "Nothing equals the Splendor!" For those who were so lost and found their way back home, they know what that line really means.  For me, I'm rising out of my self-built coffin.

Carry On Wayward Son

   Born in Montana. Father was a alcoholic and never around. Mother divorced him and married a used car salesman. He hated loud music. Once he threatened to break my guitar. It was a solid wood straight through neck that I bought with my money. I positioned my guitar as if holding a baseball bat.  I told him, "I bought this and I decide who breaks it!" Thank God he took me seriously. Who really wants to start out life with a murder wrap?

   It's amazing how long we hold on emotional pain. I nurtured mine for years. I held on to it thinking it made me stronger. Truth be told, it was turning me into the people I loathed. I forgave them. I released myself from self-imprisonment. I realized the biggest hater and lier was...me.  Why add more weight of this world upon your head? There are enough people with the same affliction creating pain and suffering. I decided not to add to the willfull  misery. I decided to follow Jesus.
