Our piece is called “Atlantis” produced originally by Seafret. We started our process by finding a song that we both liked. We found a backtrack of the song online then, with our newly learned skills we set up the microphones and sang.  We tracked the vocals in Logic Pro separately, then mixed them together in post-editing. We added reverb and EQ to the vocals before mixing the track.

I chose the song “Go Cats Go” because when I would play it with my band class it made me feel so happy and free, like it felt like everything just disappeared when we played that song so when my band teacher, Mr. Smith  told me that I will be making my own song. I chose to do this one because of how it made me feel inside. I really enjoyed watching my friends support me through it and telling me what need to be changed, I honestly was very nervous to do this but when I started I felt like nothing could stop me now, so I hope you guys like it like I do and hopefully it makes you feel some type of emotion like it did me.

So to begin, I’ve been messing around with Logic Pro (a digital audio workstation used to record sound at a near professional quality) for about 3 months. The application is used to record both MIDI (multi instrument digital interface) and sound from microphones through an audio interface. Instead of deciding to make a piece primarily composed of MIDI I decided to record myself playing guitar. I’ve been playing stringed instruments for nearly two years now, and bass is my preferred instrument. However, I decided to improv something on an acoustic guitar that was tuned to drop C, which is an alternate lower tuning, then used a shure beta 52a bass mic to better capture the lower tuning. After recording, I began messing around with EQ and effects. I hope you enjoy it.

For my project I decided to read the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Alen Poe. I recorded my project using a handheld Roland recorder. I decided to do a poem by Edgar Alen Poe because he is one of my favorite writers. The meaning behind the poem “The Raven” is the grief of losing a loved one and the struggle to overcome it.

For this episode of "Ask a Teacher", each student in the class chose a guest. Some are "teachers" and others are school employees that, through their involvement with the students, are people of great influence and inspiration.
