O love how you occupy a very wide stereo space which makes it feel even more dark as if the presence is totally surrounding the listener. Wow!

„The Electorate Donkeys“, aka "The Electoral Asses" by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856), a famous poet, novelist and journalist.
Best known outside Germany for his early lyric poetry, which was set to music in the form of lieder (art songs) by composers such as Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. Heine's later verse and prose are distinguished by their satirical wit and irony. He is considered a member of the Young Germany movement. His radical political views led to many of his works being banned by German authorities—which, however, only added to his fame. He spent the last 25 years of his life as an expatriate in Paris.

Und die Republik der Tiere

Jedwede Tiergattung versammelte sich
 Wahlzettel wurden geschrieben
 Parteisucht wütete fürchterlich
Intrigen wurden getrieben
Das Komitee der Esel ward 
Von Alt-Langohren regieret
Sie hatten die Köpfe mit einer Kokard
Die schwarz-rot-gold, verzieret
Es gab eine kleine Pferdepartei
Doch wagte sie nicht zu stimmen

 Der Alt-Langohren, der grimmen
Als einer jedoch die Kandidatur
 Des Rosses empfahl, mit Zeter 
Ein Alt-Langohr in die Rede ihm fuhr

Lead Balloon

Third track from this project, inspired by Ann Leckie's book, "Ancillary Justice". One of the instruments I chose for this came with that lo-fi, warm, white noise, analogue, vinyl feel. You can't miss it, I've let it dominate the recording... or should I say, I've let the compressor decide! In the end, I think it helps with the slightly bluesy, smoky guitar lick. Breq's developing relationship with Seivarden is a central theme in the book. 

The illustration is by Tom Fowler (on tumbler). It shows Breq holding Seivarden by the scruff of the neck... very different to the two of them on the book cover.  I love the way Leckie's book plays with the reader's gender perceptions.
