Basement Tapes marks a big departure from recent Anceis Jazz Unit Releases. The short album delivers intense, lo-fi performances where the alto sax and electric bass are replaced by the electronic saxophone and 808.

Recorded in one day in Emma Sjue's basement, the outing explores a strange electronic experimental jazz style, going back to the spirit of their first outing Ignited, although rougher and wilder. Jackson Harvey soars on electronic sax, while Emma Sjue and Daniel rock hard on guitar and drums. Pete Weiss performed an 808 bass on a mini-keyboard, which the members thought would be fitting for the release.

Basement Tapes explores the theme of retro-futurism, combining vintage rock and jazz fusion with electronics in an avant-garde fashion.
