SOL welcomes the returning Nau Leone for the label’s sixth release. The Spaniard, who is fast garnering a stellar reputation as one of Spain’s finest emerging producers, follows up his mesmerising label debut ‘Breathe’ with a second instalment in the ambient series.

‘Breathe II’ delivers a scintillating continuation, bringing together three beautifully cinematic and meditative tracks. ‘Distance’ leads the release, it fuses emotive keys and earthy atmospheric tones in a thrilling soundscape.
‘Dhyana’ offers a similarly intricate sound. The tracks embodies an uplifting and introspective piano line, coupled with a hopeful, vibrant synth lead.
‘Reconnect’ closes out the EP, once again bringing exhilarating, atmospheric textures to the fore. Its complex character combines a raw, dark edge with soothing vocal tones.

Our next guest enjoys his glass of spiced rum on ice: Darper, a UK / Hastings based Producer and DJ. We're always amazed when we listen to his mixes and are more than happy wo welcome this talented producer and versatile storyteller on board!

Darper, a guitarist at heart, spent his formative days running his own label and producing electro. Darper’s sound is a melodic brand of organic electronica, one that sets foot into both the lighter and darker ends of electronic music. DJing from London to San Francisco, Berlin to Burning Man. He has his own long running Electric Fiction mix series on Frisky Radio. And has released music on a number of imprints including Culprit LA, Ton Töpferei, Balance Music, The Soundgarden, Traum Schallplatten, Sag & Tre, Hidden Vibes, Klub Kids and Anjunadeep. Darper continues to develop his sound and is gaining traction with his thoughtful approach to music.

Trying to fit one's musical embodiment into a little under an hour is never an easy task, especially on such a grand stage. Brazilian DJ Servelin has developed his love for music while listening to progressive house icons like Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, but after discovering more moody, melodic and rhythmic deep house sounds he realized that he had found his niche. His main influences are now include many of the ADID and Shanti Radio Moscow label members such as YokoO, Lee Burridge and Gorje Hewek & Izhevski Currently, Servelin is resident of Flora, one of the fastest growing electronic music events in Southern Brazil. The sounds of Servelin are filled with lush melodic mixes as well as chunky rhythmic mashups. Prepare for a soulful and bouncy hour of fun !

Canopy Sounds 17: Servelin

Today’s cocktail got lots of Scandinavian spirit! Danish electronica newcomers BYLJA, consisting of Marchel Mørk & Emil Aagaard, is presenting the Scandinavian version of the Moscow Mule, the “Nordic Mule”.

BYLJA is one of those acts we stumbled upon while browsing through the endless stream in the cloud of sounds. The project has just debuted in Denmark and is not yet one year old. Marchel and Emil have released one track as of today, this gem is called “LAKI”. It was love at first sight. Or, better, at first hear. The track transports such an incredible atmosphere of melancholic, ambient but at the same time uplifting melodies. It was clear we wanted BYLJA on board and we are super happy they mixed their first mixtape for Schirmchendrink!

Marchel Emil share an enthusiastic passion for electro-acoustic ambient house music, which they give a personal and Nordic touch through BYLJA. With musical inspiration from artists such as Kiasmos, Bonobo and Moderate, BYLJA moves in a world of melancholy, well thought compositions and magnificent sound surfaces. At the same time, BYLJA's sound universe has deep roots in the house music, from which
they include rich bass and distinctive drums.

BYLJA's sound is characterized by a natural fusion of the digital and the analogue. Both computers and analog synthesizers, acoustic piano, guitar and bass form the frame of the duo's organic sound.

Their Nordic Mule contains fantastic unreleased productions of the duo. Can you guess where they are hidden? We are so much looking forward for those pearls to be released…and more coming from BYLJA soon!

Started DJ-ing in the pre digital age of electronic dance music, played at several clubs, events and had a residency at a club In Delft NL. I played with a variety of DJ’s who have changed the dance scene over the years to come. In the era where underground became mainstream and vinyl became CD's the love of the music left me. My musical preference was nearly unavailable due to the vast quantity of ordinary mainstream music and therefore turned my back to the dance scene.

Exploring other sounds of music and loving them, as long as the artists put in their heart and soul. That's emotion you can't ignore in music. Despite the other mmusic and emotions their was always a void in my heart but never knew why. Until a friend re-introduced me to the new and evolved dance scene. Never expected to get in touch with the magic again I was blown away. At that moment for the first time in many years the void in my heart was filled and I knew I can never turn my back to the scene again. Enjoying the musical emotions artist nowadays create, finally the musical preference that was unavailable 2 decades ago is here. So it wasn’t long before I jumped back in the scene, picked up my DJ skills and embraced this new digital era full of possibilities and opportunities. With renewed love for the music, the artists and the entire scene. Now incorporating my knowledge of the past and the limitations of vinyl into the enormous possibilities, , creative freedom and present emotions that are spread throughout the scene today

Dance Spirit is a duo dedicated to the attainment of subconscious harmony through rhythm, timbre, melody and movement. Based in Los Angeles, they’ve forged these elements into a vehicle of positive change through the medium of live electronic music.

Esoteric as it may sound, their philosophy has yielded achievements of substance. Championed by such respected labels as Get Physical Music, Crosstown Rebels and Bedrock Music, they have made a lasting mark on the global dance music landscape. Their all-original live sets have garnered them worldwide renown, but somehow the years to come look to be the brightest yet.

The seeds that would eventually grow into Dance Spirit were sown when Christopher Mohn befriended Reagan Denius owing to their shared love of progressive house. The former musician was born in Durango, Colorado and the latter in Austin, Texas - but they both grew up in Southern California and met in 2006 while working together for San Diego promoter Realivze Tribe. After shelving a previous techno project, Mohn and Denius debuted Dance Spirit live on The Rooftop of The Standard Downtown LA during a 2011 installment of Harmonic’s Bask event series.

2013 marked a major turning point for the duo. Between sharing the stage with Mr. C at underground warehouse parties and getting their Manifest EP signed to Audiofly’s Supernature imprint, they began to cultivate an international fan base. By the end of the year they had landed a residency with the Flying Circus event series at Sankeys Ibiza, and 2014 saw them tour throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

In addition to the SacBe industry parties in Tulum, a Superfreq label showcase at Fabric London, and Katerblau in Berlin, Dance Spirit has brought their improvisational brand of house music to nightclubs like The Great Northern, Public Works and Monarch in San Francisco as well as holding down a residency at Do Not Sit On The Furniture in Miami. As far as festivals are concerned, their résumé includes performances at such staples as Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Lightning In A Bottle and Piknic Electronik Barcelona as well as Burning Man sound camps like Music Savages, Pink Mammoth and Robot Heart.

Meanwhile, Dance Spirit’s tireless work ethic in the studio has earned them releases on countless world-class house and techno labels. Among the highlights of their discography is their 2014 effort Take In The Night EP on Superfreq and a collaborative EP with Audiofly titled Angel Eyes that arrived by way of Mobilee Records in 2016. The latter year they also teamed up with David Scuba on an EP titled Dust that came out on Desert Hearts Records, and released the Drowning In Irises EP on Rebellion.

2017 saw the duo debut on Bedrock Records with a three-tracker called the Thoughts Like Stars EP among other releases. In the summer of 2018 they released the two-track EP Space Portal to the Heavens on Get Physical Music after collaborating with Cari Golden on the Wash Me Clean EP via Lee Burridge and Hoj’s Tale + Tone imprint.

By incorporating analog drum machines, synthesizers live vocals into their engaging performances, Dance Spirit craft mesmerizing progressive house soundscapes with subtle hints of ambient and minimal techno. Publications like Thump, Mixmag and Attack Magazine have published features on the duo, and they’ve contributed guest mixes for such iconic series as Get Physical Radio and Transitions with John Digweed. As big as their audience has grown, their vision has remained the same: to be a beacon of light on otherwise dark dance floors.

For the foreseeable future, Dance Spirit have solidified their role as a permanent fixture in the world of underground electronic music. As always, they’re content to let the music speak for itself.
