Rove Ranger - Future Starts Today [Artaphine Premiere]

Jay Clarke returns to his imprint BLACKAXON for his 6th instalment which will be dropping in 4 parts across September and October 2021. 

The project titled ‘Riders of the Storm’ was announced earlier in the year across his social media channels, where he made 4 previously unreleased and original tracks available to remix as part of a competition. This was opened up to all production levels, with the idea to give lesser experienced artists the chance to remix, get creative and most importantly have fun. 

Jay Clarke has carefully selected his favourite remixes, which include two Irish techno producers, as Dublin's Aero and Mode_1 both contribute their tracks to this exciting compilation. 

Today, we premiere Mode_1's remix, as the Subject resident and longtime figure within the Irish scene, provides us with a loopy and driving remix, primed and ready for the clubs and dance floors up and down the county.

Four Four Premiere: Jay Clarke  - Functionalism [Mode_1 Remix] - [BLACKAXON

Premiere: Olorr X Specific Objects - Drifting Emotions [TWICE002]

Our second premiere of the week, comes from one of the most in demand producers and DJ’s in techno right now, Hadone. The French based producer has delivered a clean cut, rhythmic, catchy and melodic dance floor weapon, that’s been beautifully all rolled up into just over six minutes.

The prolific producer has delivered the goods once again. Having made some of the biggest techno hits of the last few years, he puts his Hadone trademark on yet another project. Tracks like ‘Hope Reminds Me Of Her’, ‘Timing The Passion’, ‘On The Edge Of Adhesion’, ‘Miles Away’ and more have culminated into the millions of streams on various platforms for the French producer.

The track is driven by a pounding kick dum, fleeting synth lines, sharp percussion hits and an encapsulating vocal loop. The later part of the track see’s Hadone put his trademark euphoric stamp on the track. Long and wide pads take centre stage for ultimate dance floor, euphoria from the young French maestro.

The ‘Tetragonal EP’ marks the fourth and final release of the Stone Techno series for this year. German label, Third Room have collaborated with the Ruhr Museum foundation in order to create a very unique concept which refers to the notable history of the Ruhr Area. Delivering a brilliant 4 track VA with music from Dax J, Hadone, Colin Benders & Felix Fleer.

For the third installment of Token’s Fuga compilations, the label invites another list of 9 cutting edge artists to put their skills to the test. Ignez, Emily Jeanne, Altinbas & Cirkle, Alarico, Dustmite, Yant, Marcal, and Decka all offer their unique vision of contemporary club music for a collection of tunneling and intelligent cuts. 

Introducing the compilation, Ignez warms us up with the appropriately-named ‘Celestial’ - a 6 minute argument between melody and dissonance over a thick percussive line. Emily Jeanne then continues with ‘Red River Delta’ to lift some of the weight with a dissociative mind-bender. The crisp sound design and wide stereo image allow for an exhale before Altinbas and Cirkle introduce their collaboration ‘Uhlanga’. With our focus back on the body, the duo turn up the pace and prioritize groove. With rhythm at the forefront, depth is given to the track in the ambience, creating a rainforest-like atmosphere with resonant stabs streaking over the tighter low-end. Alarico then picks things up by taking advantage of this crescendo to present the energetic climax of the compilation with ‘Spit’. Hypnotism becomes almost paranoia with vocal cuts camouflaging themselves in the pulse of the track that only releases us with the occasional fleeting arpeggio. Walls rise and we’re in concrete for Dustmite’s ‘Filaments and Jaws’, which wastes no time in introducing itself with clear intentions and an imposing, low hi hat. He then lifts the record with a hovering main synth that drifts the experience back into a nervosity that complements the preceding track. It’s Yant’s turn to guide us with ‘Take the Reins’ - an almost nostalgic record with infectious chord stabs over a pounding 909, before leaving us with Marcal. ‘Dancing Pursuit’ is offered to the listener as another dance floor weapon with a density in its percussion and ambience that’s balanced by the sequence of the lead synth and creates a lot of energy. Decka then takes control with ‘Fracture’ with a brutally saturated kick over whipping two-bar synth loops to close out the compilation with a head-spinner.

The day has come to finally release the very first vinyl record of Autonome, including 4 killer tracks by already established and promising upcoming talents.

On the A side, Hiss aka Rove Ranger strikes first with a floating, hypnotic journey full of tension and rhythm. Right after, Cirkle provides an old-school reminiscent, raw driving weapon, embodying the pure techno fundamentals.

The B side welcomes a longstanding pillar of the scene, who pushes the boundaries of music and support as no one before him. Setaoc Mass gladly contributed with one of his signature mechanical club lesson. 
Yant wraps it up with his trademark storm of soundscapes and rumbling drums. Definitely one of the strongest rising artist of the past years that brilliantly concludes the VA.

Massive thank you to Setaoc Mass, Yant, Hiss and Cirkle for their great collaboration. We hope you enjoy this 12" as we do, because it surely won't be the last.

Ø Phase presents Toru Katsuta - "Phenomena" EP for the third release on his Modwerks imprint.

"I first encountered Toru upon exiting a Tokyo DJ booth one evening. He was waiting patiently to pass me a CD of his work along with a polite, hand-written note. The tracks had a uniqueness and an appealing futuristic feel, and thus a few of them became regular fixtures in my DJ sets" - Ø Phase

It was through this initial exposure that Japanese native Toru Katsuta came also to the attention of Charlie M Duff (AKA Matrixxman) and his music gained further broadcasting

(featuring in various podcasts and DJ performances). This eventually lead to an invitation in 2021 to remix for the also up-and-coming Alarico on Matrixxman's The Grid label.

4 dance floor cuts bookended by 2 sci-fi excursions, "Phenomena" EP represents a long overdue showcase of Mr Katsuta's futuristic sound.

Rene returns to the SK11X series after his stellar debut on the label. This time with 4 cuts of finely crafted techno as only Rene knows how to do.
Unrelenting grooves and a deeper look into his unique sound design flair, these tracks are timeless in sound and production quality.
“Fuego” kicks it off as the A1 with its up tempo base and FM sounds . “Tell Me” as the A2 strips it back into a rolling drum track. “Tizer” settles it back into a percussive, syncopated clappy groove with a prominent vocal stab. The arpeggiated warm back drop of “Speeding” closes out the EP in style.
