New Jersey house legend Harry Romero makes a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels with It Hurts. Teaming up with long-term vocalist partner Jessica Eve, the EP includes a remix from award winning producer Rodriguez Jr., who makes his first appearance on the label since 2017.

Speaking on the release, Harry Romero described how Jessica’s voice perfectly complemented the track, stating: “It’s been quite a while since I’ve collaborated with Jessica Eve. She has a very unique voice that captures the true essence of the words she speaks. What better place for this production than the infamous Crosstown Rebels. I can’t wait to share this one with you all.”

It Hurts sets off with tribal drum patterns, as Jessica Eve’s hypnotic vocals open into a myriad of jungle-like samples. Whispering hats compliment the bassline throughout, helping to form a quintessential peak-time number. Rodriguez Jr.’s remix comes next, as the French talent provides six minutes of emotive electronic music thanks to his trademark emotive sound. Stripped-back kicks meld into gentle key chimes, creating a signature poignant cut.

Long standing American house music producer Harry Romero is a well-established figure on the worldwide music circuit. A prominent global DJ and producer since the 90s, early productions on Cutting Records and Cutting Traxx helped set the tone for Harry’s career trajectory, opening the doors to a coveted BBC Radio 1 ‘Essential Mix’ in recent times and this is his first headline feature release on Crosstown Rebels having previously hit the Beatport charts with his well-received digital release on Rebellion. Talented vocalist Jessica Eve is no stranger to the house scene, appearing on several of Harry’s tracks over the years including Dancin, What Happened and Feel Good most recently. Mobilee affiliate Rodriguez Jr. has been a prevalent producer since the mid-2000s, the French native’s Cercle performance has amassed over 2.5 million views on Youtube, whilst his latest album, Blisss, received widespread industry acclaim upon its release last year.

Singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexander Sjödin proves his virtuosities once more under his well known Sailor & I moniker on his fresh take on electronica, the Lost in this Civilized World EP.

Opener Coming Down is a quintessential piece of dreamy electronica, radiating an ethereal atmosphere largely summoned by the artists recognizable crooning vocals. The soulful melody and evocative synths add a touch of extra sonic magic, rounding off the instrumental.

Black Monday showcases Sjödins piano mastery, as a yearning melodic loop sets the stage. Filled with suspense and tension via gleaming synths, the track leads to an intense and dramatic breakdown that leaves a lasting impression.
Melancholy-driven piano is key on Isolated Tears, a pensive downtempo composition that touches on the artists classical side, bridging it into modern day electronica with playful glitches and subtle percussion.

Kellerkind takes on Coming Down, amping up the dance factor with an energetic, standout bassline that contorts underneath bleeps and chimes, emphasising Sailor & Is croons.

Coming Down gets another remix treatment by Deorbiting, who serve up a spaced out, glitched version of the original with a suspenseful breakdown and energy-inducing sequences.

KOMPAKT welcomes back three dear friends – Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying.

Though we both have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length “Brighter” (KOM 254), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate’s series and releasing two of 2019’s most played out club tracks together with Rampa (Innervisions) and Artbat (Watergate Records), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations.

The result is Synchronicity – a series of 3 EP’s then a full length album to be released throughout 2020 on KOMPAKT.

We start things off with a collaboration with Ireland’s finest dance music export, Mano Le Tough. “Oblivion” is a dream matrimony which is blissfully charged by an emotional beat and swaying vocals. Barcelona’s Marc Piñol has been an extended part of the Kompakt family thanks to his connections to the Nitsa family and our adoration for his DJing and releases on labels such as Hivern Discs and Black Money. Laid back and severely sexy, “Sooner” sways the soul with its disco flared passion. Another artist we cannot get enough of is Berlin’s Perel – she brings her singular vision of Neue Deutsche Welle to a classic WhoMadeWho beat on “Der Abend Birgt Keine Ruh”. It’s a duet like none other. Last but not least, Frank Wiedemann is famed for his work as half of Âme and also as a member of The Howling. Thanks to a pre-lockdown recording session in Berlin, they all came up with two singles – the first we can share is “Peter Pan Me" where they take pull and restraint approach that lets Tomas and Jeppe’s vocals cry with a forcefulness and passion which is set to remain in your head forever after.
