Marty Funkhauser - Road Trip

I recently had the pleasure of Dj'ing my friend Jay and Meg's wedding and was tasked with coming up with something that EVERYONE of all ages, shapes and sizes could connect to and get down to on the dance floor.  This was my attempt in doing just that.  An eclectic blend of retro funk, 80's rock and 90's hip/hop all rolled into one bass pumping package.  Hope you enjoy!

2019 was our best year as Smalltown, with releases on Fools Gold and Box Of Cats and some of our favorite shows to date. It was also the end of the decade, and our Best Of 2019 mix has an incredible batch of tunes on it to round out the last 10 years of these mixes. From Four Tet to Jai Paul and the Chemical Brothers, there was so much great music to came out this year. We managed to get one last party in before the lockdown and it was one for the books! Opening set at the annual Calgary Burning Man equinox party - Lust for Dust, on March 7, 2020.

Playing music on New Years Day is always one of my favourite sets of the year.  We've all put the old year to bed and come together to share in the coming years rich potential.  Over time, I've found that the sets that resonate are the ones that riff on classics, are rich with soul, that are just all the way down funky.  Comfort music.  Feel good music.  
 Accessible, but done right, hits for the heads as well.  I nabbed this recording from a set that I did not think was going to happen.  2020 was a rough year.  I hadn't performed since August as pandemic lockdowns had curtailed 99% of live music.  So I really wanted to catch the feels right.  Glad I captured this.  Hope you enjoy.
