K: I have a lot of respect for history and tradition as well as progress and fresh ideas. DJing for an educated crowd in Chicago and Detroit, for an European, who plays house and techno is an honour. To go to the record stores like Submerge or Gramaphone, hang out with artists, who's music I admire and feel the creative energy of the city is very inspiring."

Of the original crop of Detroit DJs, @delano_smith is one of the few still dedicated to the craft. At a time described as the Wild West by some, when party culture was taking its first tentative steps, Delano honed his skills under the guidance of the late, great Ken Collier. With initial sets fusing soul, disco and early electronic sounds, Delano planted seeds in the minds of Detroit’s subsequent generations. Those dancing to his sets in the late 70s and early 80s would later become ambassadors of a scene with worldwide appeal. Now, Delano stands shoulder to shoulder with the figureheads he once educated, writing a brand new chapter for house and techno. Following a period out of the game, Delano returned with a new focus, forming the DJ collective BeatDownSounds with long-time peers Norm Talley and @mikeagentx. The trio offered a unique, slowed down and raw take on house, a sound picked up by London/Tokyo label, @third-ear-recordings, and presented on the double-length compilation ‘Detroit BeatDown Vol.1’, the success of which enabled Delano and his partners to represent the Motor City on an international level. In 2002 his own Mixmode imprint. In 2009 Delano formed a pivotal relationship with the Berlin-based @sushitech, following a chance meeting with label head @yossi Amoyal, the setting Panorama Bar, a club that would later help define Delano’s musical direction. After a string of successful Sushitech EPs, Delano dropped ‘Odyssey’ onto the scene’s collective consciousness, an album spawning enduring dancefloor favourites. Two years later his sophomore long player arrived, loaded with dark and dubby material ‘Twilight’ was a curve ball to follow the hysteria that greeted his debut. 2017 saw Delano add yet another Sushitech LP to his discography, entitled ‘Detroit Lost Tapes’ it offered archived material, dug out and recontextualised with a worldwide tour following in support.

Davide Decay, the mastermind behind the London based Decay Records label, Enfasi Records and the newly launched Yecad Music vinyl concept has been involved with the electronic music scene since 1992. Hailing originally from Milan and transplanting his passion for music to London in November 1996, Davide embodies the intersection of diverse cultures and sonic landscapes. 

The journey began amidst the electric energy of the infamous Vertigo Party at the Cross, where he first worked as a PR before seamlessly transitioning into the art of DJ'ing. From the revered halls of Ministry of Sound to the iconic decks of Fabric on Sundays, Davide's signature sound has reverberated across London's most cherished institutions. In the dimly lit corners of The Lion and the Lamb, the pulsating beats of Shoreditch Platform, the raw energy of 93 Feet East, and the electric atmosphere of Egg London, Davide Decay has showcased his craft for years, not focused on trends or hype but solely on quality music. A frequent visitor of the mediterranean club paradise island of Ibiza he has shaped his eclectic knowledge and experience of sound in countless clubs and epic afterparties.

The initial string of releases took place on Viva Music, Tusba Records, Real Tone, 1Trax, Luna Records as one half of DZeta 'N' Basile collaboration. An absolute highlight was their groundbreaking remix of Robert Owens's "I'll be your friend" - definitely one for the books as well as their version of Kerri Chandler's "Bar A Thym". It was however with the launch of Decay Records in 2013, Davide found his true calling, curating sonic landscapes that resonate with the depths of his soul. Recent remix work with Julien Sandre, Ray Okpara and Giorgio Maulini are mirroring his current eclectic music taste, that has been evolving over the course of many years.

Davide's underground ethos and charismatic presence have made him a fixture at London's legendary locations and intimate gatherings as he invites audiences on a journey of sonic exploration unlike any other.

17 Years of Wetyourself! with Peter Pixzel & Jacob Husley - 29 January 2024

Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit."

Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work.

DJ MIX #627- Frankie Flowerz (Berlin, Germany)

With one foot in New York fueling her creativity and influencing her in the way only New York can, and the other firmly in Berlin, her second home, exposing her to some of the best clubs in the world - Karina is one to watch our for. These two huge influences along with her international upbringing in Norway, Egypt and Poland and her creative multilingual mindset all shine brightly through her music.

10 years living and working on the famous mediterranean island of Ibiza has seen her involved with some of the biggest promoters in the music industry such as Cocoon Ibiza and Monza. An avid collector and player of all things vinyl, she is also one of the residents and creators of Ibizas most successful weekly open-air party The Zoo Project. Berlin, her second home, exposed her to its raw creativity helping her develop her production skills whilst playing at venues such as Kater Holzig, Sisyphos or Kitkat.

We're delighted to have Karina on board for our 206th edition with a fusion of minimal, house and dubs.

Romanian producer and DJ Olivian Nour soon found music as almost second nature growing up in musical family in Bucharest. 

From an early age he developed a strong passion for electronic music. After many years perfecting his work, at the end of 2008 Olivian built a small studio that saw the birth of his first release on Zoo:Tehnique Records, with success leading him onto releases on Tzinah Records, Escapism Music and many more.

For the last 8 years, Oli has been the driving force behind launching his own label – Melotherapy Records, for the freedom of expressing feelings, emotions and ideas in his own productions.

His sound has continued to evolve over the years under the influence of various genres of electronic music, ranging from house to minimal, techno to dub and everything in between.
