This is firstly, a WIP and an experiment with the Faziolo Imperfect Piano Library. I am drawn to imperfect sound libraries because they have a realistic edge to them that other sound library like the GIANT piano or Alicia Key's Piano don't. 

2014 Piano A.8 Fazioli Imperfect Piano

This is the first piece of Erik Satie's Gnossienne compositions. I transcribed a piano score I found into Finale 2014 and used KONTAKT's Giant Piano sound library for the playback with my own settings and preferences. To achieve a more human-like playback I inserted specific hidden dynamic and tempo tweaks into the finale score.

UPDATE 2. Added new sound libraries to the bass and drum kit for a more realistic feel. Cleaned up a few wonky piano progressions. Cleaned up the drum kit.

WIP v2. Videogame Battle Medley (From The Final Fantasy Series, Lufia, And Lufia II Battle Music) V2

In 2011 I went to Ukraine for my anthropology field school, and while there I met a young researcher named Maria. She was our Russian translator and during those 6-weeks I was there, we spent time together running off on adventures and getting into trouble. One evening towards the end of our trip, while in L'viv, I sat down and began to write this piece. 4-1/2 years later, I finished. This piece is a tribute to her and those memories. 

Whispers on a Whim - (2011 Piano A.42 Maria A.4)

I have completed a piece I began 9 years ago.

It didn't' start out as much more than 8 bars of melody. It went mostly untouched for years, picking at it and adding sounds here and there, until a few months ago when I really started to expand on it.

Today it's a full composition with a running time of 5:38.

The 2:59 mark is one of my favorite parts of the piece and an absolutely joy to compose. It's also where I found myself stuck for the past few months until last night when I came up with the solution to continue that part in a different key. Keeping the same tone I was able to continue the loving feeling I felt the piece needed and continued it onto a beautiful conclusion.

2007P.27 Variations On A Theme

Just a simple piece of nothing in particular. I had an idea for the left hand and everything else more-or-less fell into place. I have a few ideas on how to continue the piece, but I thought I'd share it here so I can listen and think on the direction I want to take this composition.

WIP 2017 Piano 004

10 years ago I had a pen pal from Korea named Lotus. We wrote to each other often and there was something of a romance. Back them I was more flowery with my music and this was a short piano piece I had written. Fast-forward 10 years and I thought to take a new spin on it and use a new sound library. 

I think the resonance of the sound is quite soothing; almost dream like.

I am experimenting with this piece. Getting a bunch of thoughts down on paper and having the computer play it back. 

I'm a little geeked about this one. A variety of themes and styles. It has been a blast to write and listen to.

Homebound Theme WIP

I keep coming back to this piece but I just cannot seem to give it form. I am hoping if I keep listening to it I will eventually think of the direction I want to take this composition in.

Hello, my name is Daniel Aistrop and I am an amateur composer. I write music for myself. It is an outlet I can use to express my inner thoughts and feelings. 

I have been writing music since I was 14 starting in 2002. I use MakeMusic's Finale to compose my music and record it using Kontakt sound libraries. 

I have saved everything I have ever written and I have well over 1,000 compositions. However only 20% are worth investing time in finishing. Because I have so many pieces I jump around doing a little here and there rather than focusing all of my attention on a single one until it is done. For this reason most of my work is perpetually a work in progress (WIP)

I enjoy getting feedback. It helps me refine my skills as a composer and make better pieces that are engaging. Please feel free to send me your thoughts, they are very welcome.
