I’ve always loved this hymn by Julia H. Johnston (1910), “Grace Greater Than Our Sin.” Here, I sang the parts like a group of guys singing a pick-up gospel tune.

The "Boar's Head Carol" is a 15th century English Christmas carol describing the Yuletide feast. Here, it is sung by Southern Harmony and friends in a 2006 concert at the Andrew Gerow Hodges Chapel of Beeson Divinity School, Birmingham, AL (Tom Petras, recording).

Grace Where You Need It Most

Just ask my mother...growing up, I used to spend a lot of time harmonizing with myself with 2 cassette decks. I thinks it’s a lot of fun. Well, I’m at it again, with different equipment, and probably sound a lot worse than I did then. “The Three Kings,” by Peter Cornelius, is my favorite Epiphany piece. Given the pandemic has prevented me from singing with folks that sound a whole lot better that I do, I decided I’d just record all the parts myself (actually, a clothes closet doesn’t make a bad studio for folks like me who don’t know the first thing about what they’re doing). Anyway, I hope you enjoy “The Three Kings.”

A neurologist from Alabama who started writing poetry after my father discovered his own gift for watercolor painting in the throes of Alzheimer’s. A life-long amateur singer, I’ve more recently started pairing lyrics and tunes, especially to try and express, through empathy and faith, the human side of dementia and other mental and physical conditions and hardships. Joy and sorrow dance together in most of my offerings. I humbly dedicate my gifts, and anything of worth accomplished through them, to the Glory of God, in deep sincerity and gratitude.
