I seperated the three movments and improved the sound on them. This is a concerto for Metal band and wind orchestra perfomed by The Wilfrid Laurier Wind Ensemble featuring Alex Showdra, Nathan Miller and Daniel Corrigan as soloists.

Program Notes:
Concerto for Metal Band and Wind Orchestra is a work in three movements that aims to fuse various sub-genres of metal with contemporary art music. It consists of original themes as well as unused motifs originally written for Daniel’s own metal band Akilina.

The first movement follows a rondo form inspired by Vivaldi’s concertos. The themes however, are not melodic but rhythmic. After introduction of the main theme, a dissonant ‘freakout’ section occurs, which is used by early Death Metal bands. After the main theme returns, there is a guitar cadenza that leads into a groove oriented outro section.

The middle movement showcases the restrained aspects seen in modern metal bands such as Opeth. It begins with a very quiet theme that gradually builds into a 12/8 riff that uses jazz harmonies. After a lengthy drum cadenza, there is a dramatic build into the third and final movement.

The final movement is a loud and bombastic finale cast in a sonata allegro form. Its principal theme is a very virtuosic guitar riff followed by a secondary theme that superimposes two contrasting themes. After the development section, there is a brief recap into the main themes. These are then followed by a bass cadenza over an ostinato riff. The piece ends as it began with the motif from the first movement that leads into a dramatic finishing gesture.

My second string quartet, played by the Penderecki String Quartet.

Each movement is based off a contemporary song, and takes musical quotes as well as interprets lines from the lyrics. The first movement is based on "Rejoice" by Andrew Jackson Jihad and the second is based on "The Last Lost Continent" by La Dispute
