a single goose is swimming in the lake and as the surface starts to break the leaves and ferns skimming off the foam

Goose Dreams

They pick, they feed, growing more in times of need
They chew, they spit, upon their leafless branch they sit.
They look across the arid horizon, they look for those have been wisened
Their search ends with calcium sculptures
We all end as bones to the vultures

They reap and sow, though the land will never grow
They circle round till they spot us on the ground.
We seem to think, it's premeditated, afraid of what our God has created
We cannot blame them for their compulsions
Cause all we are, are bones to the vultures

The clothes stripped down, skin stripped off,
The blood drained out, the bones picked off
And yet we're supposed to just go on

The things we had, the time we lost
Don't feel to bad the paths we crossed
were just another way back home


These dusky wings, evil omens that they bring
Though free from scorn, still the tree our bones adorn
It seems we've finally found our place in this cruel world    
Try to insult us
While we're being left to the vultures

It's been over half a decade since my roots broke through the dirts
A sense of belonging that i nurtured in my hurt
A broken puzzle piece with jagged edges and a scratch
Trying to light a fire without a flint or a match

You can pick the time and I will pick the place
Hang it all out on the line while I refuse to give you space
I put it all on red and still held out for more.
No one has the patience.

It's been 715 days
I saw you in that dress so white reflecting all the rays of light.
Frankly I looked like shit - what did this Queen of beauty see in this misfit

Pure gold placed in her own display,
Despite the fact she chose to lay with a fool who was nothing more than a chunk of pale pyrite.
The simple fact of circumstance a doubly sinestral dance was all the proof I needed.

I sat right down and they all stared
Unsuspecting and unprepared
I didn't know I was a sight worth seeing
Going to the zoo to see a human being

Am I just a clown in a cage, breaking down the gate in a fit of rage
But when they throw me food, I'll bow my h ead
mistake the piss-stained corner for a king sized bed.

The seasons done, we finally leave
I've been given a quiet reprieve
All aboard to the very next station
I'd give it all for a shred of appreciation

The next day passed, we're finally here
Big top ringmen with no peers,
I flap my wings and sing on cue
A cracker and a smack now I know just what to do

I was just a little nestling
Learning how to fly in this big old world
The dreams I had, the thoughts I'm wrestling
Building my life as the plumes unfurled

Migrations just too far away
I'm the base and you're the steeple
For now lets just pretend and play

I was just a tiny fledgling
Surrounded by comforts of my own choosing
The dreams I had were once compelling
But I was too warm to give up losing

We're two different species
Saving up an egg for our own nest

Now we're all in together, a two-toned feather plucked from the fairy wren
We can withstand the weather, a nest we've built with our own taloned hands
It's safe and sound in our very own branch we chose from the catalog
Lake views and our own river, a place to lose yourself in the fog

Now all for worse or better, it's you and me against the other flocks
A twig, a bug, a letter, the gifts you give somewhat unorthodox
We've flown the coop together, gladly indentured to my best friend
Let's keep the spark forever, these misadventures of a fairywren

Now that we're alone in our own tree
You're the only pair of wings I'll ever need
I could be content amongst the roots
As long as you were there to bear our fruits

A pair of lovers sat upon a cloud
For what we've built I couldn't be more proud
A sprawling plain that we can't wait to see
A pair of fairy wren forever free

Sometimes we forget that there is more to our lives than the tree, or you and me
Yeah it's somewhat shit to admit that maybe our nest needs a hand, not what we planned.
Its always been now and then with my best friend, the Fairy Wren

Misadventures (of a Fairy Wren)

I may believe myself a common bird I couldn't be more wrong
I have my favourite flower and my own morning song
Though I may look like the other birds, there's things that make me me
Like the joy I get from sitting on the branches of my tree

There's other trees in my vicinity that are nearly twice as tall
But when the storm arrives I guarantee they'll face a harder fall
I'm content to live my simple life only twelve feet off the ground
As they squawk a raucous ruckus I've no need to make a sound

The leaves are brown and dying as the autumn rears its head
Guess I'll have to find a new nook now that my old branch is dead
The simple pleasures of my old life were not without its pain
Let the feathers fall out as they will grow back again

Cold enough to break resolve but warm enough to not despair

Empty Nest

Fly to new horizons we don't know
Far beyond the ocean we shall go
Carry me across the open sea
We're afraid of where we're meant to be

Some days I still long for my old nest
But now I must pass this final test
The others wonder why I am so scared
I'm the only one who's unprepared

Like steel into the coal, you melt it into your creation
You're asleep in the hole, putting off your great migration
Its a matter of fact
You're so small you make no difference
So you take it all back, wondering where all your gifts went

As we land upon this unknown place
My old nest is full of empty space
I've been made to claim this as my own
Better off in my old nest alone
