Daniel McCarthy, aka, Jay McCarthy, was born at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston Jamaica, on October 9, 1988. Jay McCarthy grew up in an inner-city neighborhood called Hannah Town; with his sister Suzanne Thompson and his grandmother Janette Bramwell. He attended South Borough Primary School, where he sat the G.S.A.T examinations. He then attended Ascot High School, where he became a member of the football team, winning awards. He continued to maintain his grade average.
During break time at school, Jay McCarthy and friends always gather around and have lyrical clashes. When teachers heard him, they always encouraged him to become a deejay/singer. 
He started to take his musical career more seriously at the age of 15. After graduating from Ascot High School with 3 subjects,Technical Drawing, Social Studies & Integrated Science, he was employed as a Security Officer at Atlas Protection Limited. While working nights, he decided that he would further his education by going to school on the weekends  at Portmore Community College where he attained Information Technology & English Language, after being successful in the subject area he had studied, he then decided that he wanted more. He was hungry for education! After all, knowledge is power! He completed his Associate Degree in Computer Servicing and Electronics. He has since acquired a position in the Government Sector.
After living in Portmore, Westchester for five years, he had a different view of life in a new environment. Spending five years away from his home town, he decided that it was time to go back where he came from, Hannah Town. This is where his musical journey continues. He became associated with Roshaine Foster, aka Bushmaster, who is an engineer, producer, beat maker, recording artists and teacher. Since making the connection with Bushmaster, his music started to get recognition from people all over the world, including his old time friend Chris Militant. Militant is also a recording artists, producer, beat maker and promoter in London, United Kingdom. Despite the long distance, they still communicate and inspire each other, to keep on moving towards their goals in their music careers. Dionne Williams (Music Manager) and Mike Dishman (Music Promoter),team work make the dream work.
