Cover of one of my favorite songs when I feel down, and always makes me miss LA.

Holy shit this kicked my ass...
I've been working on this track for seven days straight, practically day and night.
The first three days I wasted trying to come close to the vocals and being amazed at how Prince got this weird intonation and super quick vibrato.
Then I remembered something... He sometimes used to speed up and slow down the tape and sing in that way. Once I figured that out, I think I  got at least somewhat close.
The other really difficult part was to get a digital audio workstation not to try and retain the pitch of audio being played slowed down or sped up, it always wanted to be fancy and time-stretch it, but in the end, I found a workflow that mirrored tape.
Of course, I also did not have Sheila E. available (she wouldn't take my call) for the female singing parts, so I had to do those too (sorry for that).
Honestly, this was very fun, but also hugely frustrating, to reverse engineer one of my favourite songs.
They can actually be perfectly overlayed on top of each other, variable BPM (probably because he messed so much with the tape) notwithstanding.
