SOKKYO (improvisation in Japanese) features a collaboration between myself and Christine Duncan, my mentor and a great voice improviser whose work I really admire.  

The process started with me recording several tracks of my own voice which were then sent to Christine who added her own vocal solo.  

Thanks to Jean Martin who recorded and mixed this piece.

This piece that was born from a research and creation project funded by the Canada Council for the Arts.

This is based on the fractal in the picture. 

An audio clip is split into fragments. Up and down represents the location in the clip where the fragment starts. Left to right represents time within the track. Many layers of the fragment starting at different times are stacked together, creating an echo effect.

Kyrie (Geometric Clouds)

A suikinkutsu is a Japanese musical instrument that consists of a large underground ceramic pot, into which water slowly drips.   The sound is usually very quiet, and of course quite random.   This is based on a recording of one of these instruments.

Suikinkutsu  水琴窟

This is fractal music created by repeating a pattern over and over at many levels.
