From Keysound’s clan of producers comes this stealth bomber by Bristol beat-padawan, Aphix. “Sin King” – which comes as part of a 14-track LP called Certified Connections – has quite the sepulchral mooching motion about it. We’re talking glacial synths, dingy low frequencies and offsetting screeches that could accompany any horror flick cliff-hanger. All of which sit perfectly within a tracklist including the likes of Logos, Murlo and other up and comers like Caski and Etch.
 
Label owners, Dusk & Blackdown, are celebrating their 50th release with this project that continues their exploration into the more abstract peripheries of garage and UK bass.

Solid Steel (3rd April) There's a definite Mercury Prize feel to this week, with both guests up for the title last year. 

In Hour 1 it's Young Fathers bombing the airwaves to celebrate the release of their new album 'White Men Are Black Men Too' which is out on 6th April on Big Dada. What can we expect in their mix? We'll leave it to them to explain;

"Barefoot on the concrete. That’s the world experience now.

Highlights are…  Ghost Writerz - one of them tunes that pop up and you hope that there will be more with the same kind of inventiveness, that the next one won’t just go to straight up Grime or whatever.
Pink Floyd - cos our manager thinks we sound like them, sometimes.
Timbaland - still unbeaten when it comes to beats.
Soko - French singer, really honest on this, great lyrics.
Techniques, singing on the corner in Kingston Town, melting teenage hearts in the houses around, while dogs bark and Remingtons crack.  Love conquers.

Solid Steel Radio Show 3/4/2015 Part 1 + 2 - Young Fathers

Solid Steel in association with Serato (1st May) We continue celebrating the relaunch of the Solid Steel website http://www.solidsteel.net  with the return of Four Tet and an exclusive mix alongside Anthony Naples for a TEXT Records special. Four Tet first appeared on Solid Steel back in 2001 and you can now hear this mix in the Featured section on the website, along with another mix from 2002 (which also featured Bonobo, DJ Food and DK as part of the Solid Steel Tour retrospective.) We also feature a 2001 mix from Koushik, who was the first artist to release an EP on Text Records.

Four Tet is up first digging deep with a vinyl only selection and as with one of his previous shows, there's no track list, but you can see a photo of the the album covers for every record in the background image to his mix at http://www.solidsteel.net
He had this to say about his mix;

"My latest Solid Steel mix uses music from all over the world but most of it chosen because it sounds like it comes from another world. These are all older records and things I have been listening to recently and have discovered on my endless search for music."

Solid Steel (31st March) We're delighted to welcome Little Dragon to Solid Steel this week. The Grammy-nominated band have announced their long-awaited new album ‘Season High’, which is out on April 14th on Because Music http://little-dragon.net They recently dropped the track 'Sweet' from the album and before that the track 'High', which saw the remix by Michael Uzowuru & Jeff Kleinman getting it's Premiere by Pharrell on his Beats 1 show. The band are set to embark on an extensive World tour in support of ‘Season High’, which includes Coachella, Parklife, Sonar, Bestival and a date at the Roundhouse in London in October. Music featured in the mix includes Big Sean, Jimi Hendrix, Johnnie Frierson, Martyn, the Kaytranada mix for Teedra Moses and Bryson Tiller. They had this to say "Its the typical march 2017 all over the place mix with a little tribute to the late Chuck Berry”
