Does someone know what the first Track is?

On Oct 6th 2021, about 2 years after my last set in London, I played from open to close (11pm to 5am) at Village Underground in Shoreditch. Here's a recording of the whole night with a bit of the crowd noise. 

Perhaps a full tracklist at some point... some unreleased stuff in here. 

Even though it had been a while, we had all night so no use in rushing things! I came across a lot of lovely music this year, but it mostly lived in my rekordbox or in a radio mix. I actually record a lot of my sets but it always feels like they're in a constant state of iteration, making it hard to pick just one "version" to release. Over the years I feel like this has led me to only very sparingly drop live-recorded sets. A "party" doesn't often lend itself to the archivable realm, maybe the memories are best suited to the ephemeral. 

Anyway, eternal gratitude crystals to those who came and those who danced, and to those listening now.

House music started in Chicago, but what gets lost in history lessons is how it evolved and mutated in New York. None of that would have happened without Todd Terry. Bringing together hip-hop and house with his distinctive drum sounds, Terry not only created a whole subgenre (hip-house—check out Jungle Brothers' 1988 classic "I'll House You") but helped redefine the sound as a whole, bringing it to the mainstream with a string of classic remixes that stretched well into the '90s.

Through his catalogue of records as Hard House, Orange Lemon, Bombshell, Masters At Work (before Louie Vega and Kenny Dope would take that name) and many others, Terry built a discography unlike any other in dance music. Even if you only have a vague idea of who he is, you've definitely heard a record of his, probably ten. (That legendary remix of Everything But The Girl's "Missing?" That's him too.) His sound is loose, punchy and often deliriously catchy, rooted in the ethos of the classic hip-hop he started out playing.

Terry's RA Podcast focuses on a golden era of house from the late '80s to the early '90s, including classic cuts from Marshall Jefferson, Inner City, Crystal Waters and, of course, Terry himself. There's also a modern update from Amine Edge & DANCE. As he says in the interview below, it's a way to "show where house came from." Whether you're a newcomer or have heard these tracks hundreds of times before, there's nothing like hearing them from an innovator of the form.

Previously a duo, KovaX is now Andrew Kachanov flying solo. A skilled Krasnodar-based artist with a nice story to tell via his music, fueled by his passion for the dance floor. His output can be found on UNCLES MUSIC, Cafe De Anatolia LAB, VSA, and Pro Stereo Records, to name a few, presenting an interesting combination of melodic sounds and dark references. You may also want to check his retro-infused sonority as DeadKiber, especially his appearances on Astrolead and Freshtunes – some proper Synthwave gems here.

Andrew is now back on the Argentinian label, community, and event planner normtusa with his two-original parcel “Phenomenal” through which he once again explores his characteristic blend of flavours in order to deliver his vision of dance music.

Premiered here, the title track comes wrapped in a darkness-meets-groovy aura delivered by the bouncing bassline, thick synth layers, harmonious leads, spot-on percussive elements, and obscure vocal hooks. A sober but upbeat theme with peak time potential.
