For Brooklyn duo Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett, AKA @beaconmusicnyc, dance music goes deeper than the somatic - it’s also an invitation to explore the labyrinthine potential of the cerebral. “We’ve always been drawn to abstract brush strokes in dance music,” they say, speaking toward how each mix of music is approached as if composing an artwork. “We used this mix for PLAYY. to reference some leftfield influences that were filtering into our writing: microtonality (“Meshwork” by Brendan Rincon), EBM, and drone.” The journey they take us on reflects these influences, shifting through “passages of tighter mixing, moments of pause and also some vinyl-only selects from our collection. Look out for music from our latest album, Along the Lethe, as well as brand new remixes we just dropped including Kölsch’s take on “Pay My Debts” and Midori Hirano’s remix of “Ostrich” feat. Last winter I did this remix for fun as I love Ennio Morricone and these actors. Now that Alain Delon, the last one of them passed away, I would like to share it in order to pay homage. 
Jean Gabin, Alain Delon & Lino Ventura. A whole legendary French era of artists & important people for culture is being taken away one by one at the moment.  
My late grandfather Jean-Claude Labret was part of it, working in cinema advertising, he used to know them and tell me funny stories. 

This track is a Disco re-interpretation of Le Clan Des Siciliens movie soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. 
I influenced myself of the very early French Disco like Cerrone & Didier Marouani.

Mainly used synthesizers (hardware & plug ins) from the 70’s & 80’s like Oberheim Sem Pro, ARP Solina String Ensemble, ARP 2600, Synclavier, Fairlight CMI, Juno60, Korg Ms-20…

One year on since his last full length venture 5 on Mule Musiq, house music aristocracy Fred P announces the subsequent 6 LP to mark the second part of a soon-to-be trilogy under his FP-Oner alias. These eleven tracks demonstrate the many cosmic qualities of Fred's deeper shade of soul, orchestrated for club soundsystems as well as home speakers. A notable follow-up in the NYC native's prolific 20+ year career.

An LP highlight comes in the form of "Reap Love", built up of some of dance music's favourite sounds. Percussive energy is rife from the off, with dreamy panning chords from the synthesiser adding to the nostalgic utopia of clubland's heyday. The melodies' lazy, seducing progression taps into a more spiritual, meditative feel. A true encapsulation of a dance music era that comes directly from one of its torchbearers.

The Rapture’s Luke Jenner ventures firmly into the dance floor, this time in full force, on Glittering Jewel, the Brooklyn-based producer’s debut EP under his Meditation Tunnel guise. 

Following his initial outing, La La La, on Life and Death’s vinyl-only sub-label, Blitz Series, Glittering Jewel sees Jenner step up with three outsider cuts, dripping in personality.

Cloaked subtly into the backdrop, Jenner’s unmistakable croon features throughout the disk - a highlight across the board. While dilapidated drum machines, crunched beyond recognition, propel the record into techno territory, Glittering Jewel retains the artist’s bespoke youthful sense of blue-eyed naiveté.

Red Axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of Fire Fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material. 

Carefully pressed on high-quality, transparent vinyl, LAD039 stands as a testament to the label’s shifting auditory ethos.

For its second release, Russian label Analog Concept brings you four powerful and floor-ready electro tracks from rising stars in a dedicated genre. Starting with our favourite Liverpool producer nowadays – Reedale Rise and his frisky tune Borderland that can easily work out at 5 am as well as at 5 pm. Joyful and broken rhythm promises it will shake your body properly. Simon has been seen on labels like Frustrated Funk, 20:20 Vision, Kondi etc.
The next in line is Nullptr from the east side of the Island. Label boss of d-tached records and co-promoter of Cambridge-based electro night Motherchip Connexion. Coming from labels such as Detroit Underground and CPU Records it is expected this guy brings only premium sounds. He delivers a strong and vibrant track that you cannot remain indifferent to.
Side B is reserved for a Belgian producer know by the name of Datawave with a catalog of finest releases in the last few years on labels like AC Records, Vortex Traks, Fundamental Records, Natural Sciences and the Croatian producer Ivna Ji with British label Brokntoys behind her. Datawave delivers a tune that keeps the atmospheric idea of the label at heart but experiments with driving rhythms and acid lines. Last but not least is Ivnais track Alpha Dial, composition that isn’t focused on dancefloors but instead entices the listener into a slowly progressing story, heavily loaded with dreamy synth lines.

Gnork’s leftfield dance label Earth Plates returns with their latest vinyl release, this time with fellow Hungarian CT Kidobó’s Exboyfriend EP. Kidobó may have been slightly under the radar in their Budapest locale, but is wasting no time making a name for themselves with flaring analogue electro flavor. The EP begins with two powerful electro tracks by Kidobó and the flip side features two great re—interpretations (both with a healthy dose of acid) by Label head Gnork, and Zurich’s Douala.

The title track Exboyfriend starts the EP off with a bang. CT Kidobó’s fast-paced and commanding drum programming recalls pre-pandemic memories of dimly-lit, intimate dancefloors while the heady melodies offer moments of foggy bliss and cloudy introspection. The vocal sampling in combination with lush melodic tones offer a dreamlike human touch in what is otherwise a robotic infusion of sounds. If this invigorating and deep electro style is what Kidobó has in store for listeners, there is no doubt you’ll be hearing more of them.

The Exboyfriend EP marks the second physical release of 2020 for Gnork’s Budapest-based Earth Plates label, and is CT Kidobó’s first time on wax. It is scheduled for release on September 15th.

Revered producer and composer Daniel Avery returns with a new album and live show, his most ambitious works to date. Channelling every corner of his sound, Tremor is a bold and transportive body of work through euphoric shoegaze, submerged techno, ambient soundscape and industrial bliss. It remains unmistakably Avery, yet dramatically evolved.


With the album Avery has welcomed an inspiring cast of collaborators, including the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand / Rival Schools), bdrmm, Julie Dawson (NewDad), yeule, Ellie, Art School Girlfriend, yunè pinku, and Cecile Believe. Each artist leaves their indelible mark, yet the record’s true power lies in the communal spirit at its core.

“This is a living and breathing collective,” says Avery. “Since the earliest recordings, Tremor felt like a studio in the sky, a space in time through which we could all pass as artists”, he reflects. “It’s the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey: the warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise... They have always been there in my music but now it feels like those ideas are being transmitted in Technicolor. This is a record for the post-rave comedown kids, the guitar heads and anyone else who wants to come along for the ride. Everyone is welcome.”

Tremor will be released by Avery’s new home of Domino on 31st October.
