WHITE LIGHT MIX

Was just thinking about this mix, only for a quick search to reveal it was posted on this very day in 2010. It's also Kim Gordon's birthday so the inclusion of Ciccone Youth makes for double spooky points.

Made in a windowless room on a sunny afternoon in London with two turntables, a box of records and little regard for beatmatching. Contains drum machines, 80s extended mixes, squealing synths, soundtracks and lashings of analogue delay.

This is the first single from the first Johan Agebjörn solo album of new material in 10 years, Southern Forest, to be released on US ambient label Constellation Tatsu. This single is a cover version of The Orb's classic UK top 10 ambient house single from the early ’90s. Featuring synthwave queen NINA on spoken word, the track is transformed into a dreamy, organic, beatless journey.

Gimme Some got remixed by Brian Ring. This Berlin based Irish guy is known for his unique style somewhere between house, disco and an euphoric touch of indie dance. With his interpretation of the original version by Jakob Mäder and JULIENT, Brian twists it into a dancefloor friendly and intelligent looped club track. Either for warmup in a cozy bar setting or a hot summer night, this one got vibes: organic disco inspired drums, looped vocal snippets and this reduced melody elements from the original Gimme Some. And of course some classic Brian Ring choir synths we all love!

When I read this, I knew exactly the kind of mix I wanted to make.While going to college, I had to make many long road trips across state lines.I tended to listen to a lot of Minimalism on those drives (Steve Reich, Philip Glass, etc), which to my ears completely embodies introspection and time.So I decided to make mix that bridges my current career in dance music with the simple, introspective qualities of music I listened to on those drives.This mix might be a little unexpected based on the music I’ve released, but I really wanted to showcase some of my influences and music I listen to for pleasure.Enjoy!”

Revered producer and composer Daniel Avery returns with a new album and live show, his most ambitious works to date. Channelling every corner of his sound, Tremor is a bold and transportive body of work through euphoric shoegaze, submerged techno, ambient soundscape and industrial bliss. It remains unmistakably Avery, yet dramatically evolved.


With the album Avery has welcomed an inspiring cast of collaborators, including the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand / Rival Schools), bdrmm, Julie Dawson (NewDad), yeule, Ellie, Art School Girlfriend, yunè pinku, and Cecile Believe. Each artist leaves their indelible mark, yet the record’s true power lies in the communal spirit at its core.

“This is a living and breathing collective,” says Avery. “Since the earliest recordings, Tremor felt like a studio in the sky, a space in time through which we could all pass as artists”, he reflects. “It’s the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey: the warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise... They have always been there in my music but now it feels like those ideas are being transmitted in Technicolor. This is a record for the post-rave comedown kids, the guitar heads and anyone else who wants to come along for the ride. Everyone is welcome.”

Tremor will be released by Avery’s new home of Domino on 31st October.
