2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

Creative partnership Audiofly are the next to release on Crosstown Rebels with the show stopping ‘In The (Last) Moment’ featuring the angelic voice of Georgia Lewis. The release comes complete with a steadfast remix from Germany’s Robag Wruhme.

‘In the (Last) Moment’ sets the foundation with broken chuggy beats as intricate layers and grumbling pads unfold beneath the beautiful sounds of Georgia’s voice. Audiofly explain that, "sometimes it’s nice to not have to write the usual peak time bomb, with this one we followed our hearts and the vibe of young vocalist Georgia Lewis and what emerged was a sunrise moment."

With 13 years behind them Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito AKA Audiofly have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels and their Flying Circus global party brand, which celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year with a world tour. Working harder than ever, a second artist album is in the works following on from 2011 long-player ‘Follow My Liebe’.

Industry veteran Robag Wruhme has more recently had releases on the likes of Kompakt and Pampa Records. Here he makes an imprint on Crosstown Rebels with this epic remix that fuses elated synths and industrial elements over solid rolling percussion.

Following last year's soul-stirring 'Incandesence' EP, Sly Faux slinks back into the MOOD camp with three more startling technoir escapades.

Goosebumps set to shudder: from the moment the palpitating sub and kick pattern of 'Dandellion' blooms into life, a fully immersive tale unfolds. The ghostly yearns, Rahmondau's harmonically layered, melancholic vocals, the cosmic textures, the overall rising sense of tension, the overwhelming low end… The young Australian talent is playing with some very fine alchemy right here.

'This Made You' flips for a much more visceral experience. Pounding tribal drums, ricocheting percussion and an abyssal drop into black hole bliss give no hint of the evocative cathedralic arpeggio that emerges midway. Gradually, some might even say slyly, Faux enshrouds us in a mystical hook that twists and turns, alluring our imagination with it. Once again, it's another mesmerising trip.

Finally MOOD mainstay and respected Spanish sonic craftsman Marino Canal closes the show with a fittingly beautiful remix. Subverting the lead and running it through his own maze of questions, answers and heavy emotions, it maintains the original's spiritual charm while adding its own narrative.

Overt techno mysticism at its finest, delivered just when we need it. We expect Sly Faux will be prowling back into the MOOD camp very soon again…
