Regardless of what people tell you everybody needs a little groove in their life from time to time so for this weeks podcast we secured the services of our go to guy when we’re looking for our house equivalent of our five a day: Martin Landsky. Needing little introduction we’ve long been fans of Martin both as a producer and a DJ. 

Hailing from Hamburg, Martin has been moving crowds for almost three decades, touring the globe and rocking some of the world’s best parties – with everywhere from Berlin to Brooklyn housing his irrepressible talents. Not content with smashing it as both in the DJ booth and the studio he’s also turned his hand distribution and running a label, working for Container Distribution and later for Word And Sound – one of the world’s largest distributers – whilst helming his own label, Effortil Records. Having just reprised his with association with Poker Flat for the release of his new EP 'Da Geh Bo’ (we’ve got the three track effort both in our heads and on our playlists) we thought the time was right for him take the reins on our podcast series. Mafu is an electronic music artist and one of the founders and creative forces behind the No More Snow project.

He has performed at some of Thailand’s top venues, including Illusion, Shelter, Lost Paradise, Cult Phangan, Allpha Bar Phangan, and also took part in Dramcode Festival 2023 in Phuket.

As a producer, Mafu created the official remix of the hit track “Tam, Tolko Tam” by the iconic Russian pop group Blestyashchie, which has gained nearly 1 million streams on Yandex Music.

Over the past two years, he has released around 17 test tracks and is currently focused on developing new material.

Mafu is now based in Thailand, where he works as the Music Director of The Commune Bar, actively contributing to the growth of the local electronic music scene.

Breaking through as a House and Garage DJ on the infamous East London pirate radio circuit from the beginning of the millennium, M.A.X has witnessed the ever changing electronic music scene and evolved with it under various alias's. He has been tour support DJ for all of Rudimentals UK tours (most recently the We The Generation Tour Feb/March 2016), and main support act for their 2015 European tour.

Being a regular feature during the last few years at major UK festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Wildlife, We Are Fstvl, Mutiny etc and out in Ibiza for the last 3 years at Venues such as Space, Ibiza Rocks and Pikes has helped cement M.A.X as a respected DJ among his peers and secure a sponsorship deal with Jagermeister.

2015 saw M.A.X break through as a producer with an official remix for Rudimental under his belt, a track on Black butter spread Love, an original and remix on RM records and a remix for Soul Divide on Amplified. Lots of radio support on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Kiss FM, Capital Xtra, Rinse and Beats one have helped get his name noticed by the masses.
2016 will see official remixes for the likes of MK, Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa and Longplay to name a few, an original on the Beating Heart album plus his much anticipated debut E.P.

On the DJ front, 2016 has seen M.A.X play multiple sets in the main room at Egg London, Proud Camden, 338 and Ministry Of Sound to name a few, with guest mixes on BBC Radio 1 Xtra and Rinse FM. With some of UK's biggest festivals and major events yet to be announced and sets in Ibiza, Milan and Amsterdam and more European bookings tba, it's shaping up to be a busy year for this fast rising talent.

The electronic musician and Poker Flat founder’s contemplative new stu-dio album takes in minimal house music, moody techno and effervescent breaks across 11 unique tracks. 

Acclaimed producer, DJ, label owner and musical pioneer Steve Bug’s influence on the musical landscape is, at this stage in his career, well documented. With roots in Germany’s legendary club scene and fans around the world thanks to his enviable catalogue of releases, the influence of his label Poker Flat, and his famously exemplary DJ sets, Steve is a singular artist with a lucid and passionate approach to his craft. 

His previous LP Paradise Sold alongside Langenberg was released in 2018 to critical acclaim, and described as “elegantly euphoric” by Mixmag. Never Ending Winding Roads is an entirely solo release however, with much of it produced during the months of enforced isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many of the track titles reflect Steve’s headspace during this time, with themes of solitude, contemplation and reflection brought to the fore perhaps more than with any of his previous work. 

Steve’s formative musical years were spent during Germany’s techno and acid house heyday, with his love for a perfect groove as apparent now as it was back then. His DJ skills and a keen, innovative ear led him not down the typical path of the early nineties trance and harder dance scene, but instead towards a fresher, hybrid sound–merging stripped deep house, tweaked out acid and more minimal forms of techno and electronic music: a strand of music he fiercely champions to this day. 

Steve Bug: “My mindset when making Never Ending Winding Roads was completely different to any other project I have embarked on. I didn’t have to tour, and instead could focus 100% on writing music without having the dancefloor as a constant influence. This allowed me creative freedom to explore a range of styles and emotions, and as a result, it is the album I feel most satisfied with to date”.
With 11 brand new tracks, Never Ending Winding Roads is a meticulously produced and deeply engaging electronic album; one that explores various shades of house, techno and broken beat with Steve’s celebrated attention to detail and consummate originality. 
Album opener Lucid Loops perfectly sets the tone, immediately ensnaring you with a hypnotic, undulating synth line and a faintly menacing undertone thanks to hushed, discordant strings and unnerving vocal stabs. This atmosphere of quiet paranoia permeates many of the tracks on Never Ending Winding Roads, most explicitly in the sinewy groove and sketchy, panic-inducing synth line of Locked Away In My Head. 

This album more than perhaps any other in his career sees Steve experi- menting with broken beats, to incredible effect. Tracks like A Conscious Machine and Electro Harmonix are melodic, emotionally rich cuts: burst of radiant optimism that juxtapose beautifully with the album’s darker moments. 
Elsewhere tracks like Yellow Snake find Steve exploring deep, dubby territory, while album closer Upon Mountains is a cosmic, arpeggiated masterpiece: an 8bit computer game soundtrack reimagined as a poignant electro ballad.

Daniel has found a perfect balance between depth and energy in his music, both as a DJ and a Producer.

Sitting somewhere between house and techno, big hooks, rolling chunky basslines and tribal percussion are the three main elements of his selection. With 20 years experience under his belt, Daniel still remains one London’s more elusive artists, spending over 7 years focussing his efforts on his forward thinking, quarterly party and sticking to the Cerca Trova mantra… quality over quantity.

Influenced by his older brother, Daniel first tried his hand at mixing at the tender age of 13. As expected, it didn't go too well at first, but after plenty of practice and guidance from his sibling, he found his technique. Little did he know that this would set him on the path he still walks to this day, over 20 years later.

His DJ career first started in 1998 when he took his first booking for Cultural Vibes, a weekly UK Garage party for which he became a rotational resident under the name DANNY BLUNT. He quickly built a reputation for his sound, slightly different and more rugged than most were playing. The key to his sound was simple, play the B-side, which earned him the nickname Danny 'B-side' Blunt amongst friend for obvious reasons.

It wasn't long until he started picking up bookings at some of London's major garage nights, more notably GARAGE NATION and INSPIRATION. During this time he played clubs such as colosseum, gass club and the infamous Sunday Arches.

The following decade took him on a journey through many different sounds, but always house. Still searching for the music that made him feel alive like 'the good old days', Danny found himself searching deeper into techno and tech house, and finally found his calling.

In 2008, he rediscovered himself. Under the name DANIEL he formed the infamous London basement party, CERCA TROVA, with long time raving buddy, and (then) up and coming DJ, Rossko. What started as a shindig for a few friends soon grew into one of East London's most notorious parties, bringing amazing international and local DJ's together, in unique intimate basement and warehouse spaces. 

After a three year hiatus, Daniel is once again back up to his old tricks, and keen to regain his place in the industry.
