Fifteen years in the game, countless shows in hundreds of clubs, a massive vinyl collection, numerous musical guest appearances, a handful of cult mixtapes, and two EPs - it’s all quite an achievement for an artist who is only just releasing his debut album.
The man in question is Daniel Drumz, an artist who has spent his career dissecting the sound of hip-hop, jazz, disco, UK garage, broken beat, house, and techno, building sets and producing tracks that furiously steer clear of being pigeonholed into a single sound.

Untold Stories [UKM 036] will arrive as a double vinyl, with visual design by Animisiewasz Startt and featuring the cover artwork of street artist Nawer. The album has combined Daniel’s diverse inspirations, his vast experience, and his unique familiarity with the club scene, resulting in an strikingly mature release. It’s an album that will pique the interest of both hardened clubbers and those simply looking for a compelling listen. 

“It was a long journey. In the meantime, many things have been omitted or unspoken, and in this album I’ve tried to tell some of these untold stories from my own perspective.”

As is befitting for a fully-fledged LP debut, the album has no featured guest artists. What can be heard is an amalgam of analog synthesizers and vinyl samples. The uniquely warm sound of Untold Stories can also be credited to Mikołaj "Noon" Bugajak, who was responsible for the fully analog mastering of the album. Even the vinyl was pressed at 45 RPM ensuring the highest quality of sound.

As usual, the album will be sold as a limited edition release with special attention paid towards the visual side of the project. This will be the 26th vinyl release from Poland’s home to analog electronic music - U Know Me Records.

Piętnaście lat na scenie, niezliczona ilość imprez i koncertów w setkach klubów, gigantyczna kolekcja winyli, mnóstwo gościnnych udziałów na przeróżnych płytach, kilka kultowych mixtape'ów, dwie własne EP-ki - to całkiem ciekawy dorobek dla artysty, który wydaje debiutancki album.

Daniel Drumz, bo o nim mowa, przebył w tym czasie długą muzyczną podróż, przez cały czas starając się unikać szufladkowania i odcinania kuponów, a przy okazji odrabiając swoje lekcje z zakresu muzyki, którą produkował i grał - Hip Hop, Jazz, Disco, UK Garage, Broken Beat, House czy Techno - czego echo słychać na albumie "Untold Stories" [UKM 036].

Podwójny winyl, z pracą Nawera na froncie okładki złożonej przez Animisiewasza Startt, to adekwatne ukoronowanie dotychczasowej kariery muzycznej Daniela. Wiele inspiracji, olbrzymie doświadczenie, a przede wszystkim wyjątkowe obycie na klubowej scenie muzycznej zaowocowało bardzo dojrzałym materiałem, który powinien zainteresować zarówno klubowiczów, jak i słuchaczy poszukujących niebanalnych brzmień.

"To była długa droga. Sporo rzeczy zostało w międzyczasie pominiętych lub niedopowiedzianych, a tym albumem niektóre z tych historii staram się opowiedzieć z mojej perspektywy."

Jak na pełnoprawny debiut przystało - na płycie nie ma gości. Usłyszeć za to można wiele analogowych syntezatorów i winylowych sampli. Wyjątkowe i ciepłe brzmienie albumu pomógł uzyskać Mikołaj "Noon" Bugajak, który odpowiada za w pełni analogowy mastering materiału. Same winyle wytłoczone zostały do odsłuchu w prędkości 45 RPM co ma ogromne znaczenie dla jakości dźwięku.

Jak zwykle limitowany nakład, z wielką dbałością o graficzną stronę projektu. To już dwudziesty szósty winyl w dorobku U Know Me Records - rodzimej wytwórni, która stawia na elektronikę w analogowym wydaniu.

Digging 80s pop obscurities has long been part of Emotional Rescue’s mission statement and the unearthing of this cover of the Talking Heads classic by the little known, Italian new wave band Politrio for a limited 7” press is a worthy addition.

Formed by guitarist, songwriter and producer Giorgio Canali alongside Massimo Sbaragli and Roberto Zoli for the short-lived project.  With just one album released of new wave, pop rock, it was their contribution to an Amnesty International benefit LP that spawned this excellent version of Byrne, Franz and Weymouth penned classic.   

Coming out of the CBGBs scene of post-punk downtown NYC, the song, released on their aptly titled 1977 “77” debut album, has gone on to become one of the defining songs of it’s time.  Further enhanced with their mesmeric performance in the 1984 Stop Making Sense film and album, it has been ripe for reinterpretation.   

Politrio’s version keeps and captures much of the original, but with their own swing, rhythm, Italian-English vocal delivery, rock guitar, bells and keys.  While remaining instantly recognizable, this is a unique version, with the straightened drumming giving it some added punch and kick.  

This is backed by a systematically cool, delicate but additional re-edit by the Berlin based Italian duo Dama and Budino aka Double Wave.  Rising names in the Berlin scene they are part of the Oscillator collective, label and parties and can be heard at some of the best parties right now.

Letting the instrumental interplay of funky, slap bass and rock guitar have more time to shine, the edit builds and drops, dubs and builds again to the vocals and lyrics known so well, offering an alternative sing-a-long for the more wonky DJs and dancers out there.

2 hours of deep cut acid, electro and house heaters with London based party and label Fade To Zaire. Squelchy acid lines and  arpeggiated baselines from the offset.

The song "W Pogoni" is a spontaneously recorded single, which can turn into something much larger than a one-time collaboration. The author of the music is already known to UKM listeners (a single with KRS One appeared on vinyl). A positive summer song is something we definitely need now!

In 2018, Sean Worsey, a successful lawyer in California, began to receive some rather surprising emails. These were not from prospective clients, or about current cases he was working on, but rather queries from record collectors. They wanted more details about a pair of obscure, largely forgotten records he’d made in the mid 1980s as part of a virtually unknown band called Passion Theatre.

To say he was surprised is an understatement. “People from around the world were emailing, calling and messaging us about the music, particularly a track called ‘Vacation Day’,” he says. “Our records were rare and gaining in value, mainly because there were not many manufactured at the time. By 2019, several individuals in the music industry had emailed me about licensing tracks.”

We eventually agreed with Sean to include ‘Vacation Day’, on Charles Bals’ second compilation, Retour Au Club Meduse. Impressed with the quality of the compilation Sean approached us again to discuss whether we would be interested in reissuing both of his old EP’s in full, an idea he’d been considering for a few months already.

We jumped at the idea of course and have spent the last few months putting the reissue project together. The original studio tapes were long gone but a friend of Sean’s had some mint vinyl copies which we had shipped over from California to use as the master source, restored and mastered superbly by Technology Works in London. The striking original artwork from the two EP’s has been faithfully reworked into a gatefold double vinyl LP by designer Asger Behncke Jacobsen and features extensive interview/sleeve notes by Matt Anniss.

In the words of Sean Worsey - “One of the nicest things about the renewed interest in our music is that we can now enjoy it for what it is – back then we were a bit too worried about succeeding.”
