a song about naivety and perception, and the crumbling foundations of the earth on which we may not stand on for much longer

lyrics:

we're on a family trip to seek out the edge of the world
we load up the car full of junk and set off down the road
head pressed against glass watching days quickly pass and grow old
not sure of the way but we'll get there some day i was told

do all the lights intertwine at the edge of the world
i tell my mummy i'm a lucky girl to be alive

we pull up the car and welcome the breeze in our hair
the sea laps the shore and seasons the condensing air
clouds swirl around and the rain patters down in despair
we looked for a sign but our hearts knew that no one was there

and the thunder erupts at the edge of the world

we found small plastic shells and held them in our tiny hands
the sea bit my ankles and gifted me old rubber bands
rainbow reflections clung hard to my skin and remained
barnacles peeled into rockpools and drifted away

the kids disappeared from the edge of the world
perhaps they weren't coming home so i said my goodbyes

a feathered friend wore a ring round his neck
crashed in the sand and his wings were a wreck
i held his head and promised i was there
as he took his last breath of fresh air
