Retrospective: the best of 2021

Hi everybody.  Just in time for fall 2022 festivities, here's my latest mixset.

SEPT 22'

This is my September House and NuDisco Mix!

Once I got done, I noticed that I started off with the idea of feeling trapped; and then the last four tracks flip this script, and revolve around asserting oneself in various ways. 

In particular, the 11th track is an excellent remake of the 1966 Sergio Mendez hit, "Mas Que Nada" - literally "more than anything", but actually a Brazilian idiom meaning something like, "No way!" or “Oh, come on now!” :-)

This 50-minute(ish) continuous mini-mix features songs in the 126 beats per minute range and includes re-workings of the following tracks:

Revival House Project (2022)
"Earth Song (What About Us?)” [Club Mix] 

Revival House Project, a collective comprising vocalist and songwriter Christopher Peyton, producers James F. Reynolds, Paul Gardner, and DJ Mousse T., released the soulful house remix of "Earth Song (What About Us) [Club Mix]" in 2022. This rendition reimagines Michael Jackson's original "Earth Song," infusing it with an infectious house music vibe while preserving its powerful message. The track features vocal performances by Kathy Brown, Phebe Edwards, Greg Gould, Anelisa Lamola, and the GeO Gospel Choir.

Jack Back ft THEMBA (2024)
"Give Me Something To Hold” [Extended Mix]

Jack Back (David Guetta's house music alias) and South African DJ and producer THEMBA teamed up to create "Give Me Something To Hold (Extended Mix)." They released the track as part of Defected Records' 25th-anniversary "Together" series. The remix fuses Jack Back's house music style with THEMBA's Afro-house influences, delivering a hypnotic club vibe loaded with captivating melodies, modern electronic rhythms, and striking vocals.

Anastacia (2000)
"I’m Outta Love” [Karbon & Gen Martini Afro House Remix]" 

Anastacia's "I'm Outta Love" has been reimagined in an Afro-house style by Karbon and Gen Martini. This dance remix infuses the original with deep and tribal house elements, delivering a fresh take on the classic.

Stereolove ft Brian Kennedy (1996)
"Life, Love and Happiness” [2013 Paul Goodyear Mix]  

"Life, Love and Happiness" is by Irish singer-songwriter Brian Kennedy This remix was reimagined by Melbourne, Australia-based  Stereolove, featuring Kennedy's vocals, and remixed by DJ Paul Goodyear (aka SanFranDisko). Goodyear’s take infuses the original with vibrant house beats giving it an uplifting appeal.

Ministers De La Funk ft Jocelyn Brown (1999)
"Believe” [Mark Knight Remix]

"Believe" is a house music track released in 1999 by Ministers De La Funk, featuring the powerful vocals of Jocelyn Brown. The production trio behind Ministers De La Funk includes Erick Morillo, Harry "Choo Choo" Romero, and José Nunez.

The song gained significant acclaim in the dance music scene, known for its soulful vocals and infectious rhythm. Over the years, "Believe" has been remixed by various artists, each bringing their unique style to the track.

Faith Hill vs Vic Moore (1999)
"Breathe and Breathe Again” [Shepherd's Breath Of Fresh Air Mix]

The "Breathe and Breathe Again” [Shepherd's Breath Of Fresh Air Mix] is a mashup remix of "Breathe" by Faith Hill and "Breathe" by Vic Moore. This mashup, crafted by DJ Wayne Shepherd for Indianapolis-based, Deific Records, seamlessly combines elements from both tracks, offering a fresh blend of vocal surprises.

Elton John (1972)
"Rocket Man” [Deep Extended Remix Vinny ReEdit]

Elton John's iconic track was originally released in 1972, as the lead single from his album Honky Château. Brazilian music producer Vinny Garcia infuses the classic track with deep house elements, offering a fresh, danceable interpretation.

Donna Summer (1978)
"Rumor Has It” [VP DJ Duck’s New Disco Extended Remix]

"Rumour Has It" by American singer/songwriter Donna Summer, was released released in 1978 as part of her concept album Once Upon a Time. The track achieved moderate success, peaking at #53 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and reaching #19 on the UK Singles Chart. Summer rose to fame during the 1970s disco era, earning the title "Queen of Disco" as her music gained fans worldwide. The "New Disco Mix Extended Remix" by VP DJ Duck, infuses the original with contemporary disco elements offering a fresh take on the classic track.
