I was first turned on to Goa music in the early 90s, young and innocent, discovering the communal state of trance for the first time. Back then I wasn’t interested in its roots or it’s origins and preferred to get lost in music not thinking of the days to come or those gone by.
When it all became formulaic and a genre as such, things started to lose their magic and I begun to explore sounds of the past, turning my nose up at something which for me had lived it’s course…
I dived into a whole new sonic horizon, old relics which sounded new to me and more interesting than a lot of contemporary releases. Unconsciously, I was drawing a map which covered many seminal dancefloors worldwide. I would later find out that the distance between most of these tracks had no boundaries as they could just as well have been played in Chicago, Manchester, Gent, Ibiza, Baia Degli Angeli, or Goa…
This mix can be listened to like a GPS directing you towards those places, somewhere in the mid 80s, with Goa as the meeting point and final destination. Funnily enough it is also very close to the first mixes that helped put my name on the map almost 20 years ago…

Helsinki based legend Denzel  (@denzelmyman)for number #140 with 100% groove, rare digger gems and the perfect balance of percussive & dubby rhythms. Of course too, an oomph of cheekiness to the mix, reflective of both his musical output and personality. One of the brains behind Post Bar, Solstice Festival and more, Dennis has a crazy broad knowledge and taste in a wide range of musical styles, but always manages to pull things together with class & ease.

Dennis is also a very talented producer, with a new punchy, banging EP on Helsinki output @emotsiyamusic due out on the 11th October, which the label describes as "brainy and bouncy like Denzel’s sense of humor" (so true)

Apartment 91, fifth floor. Ilya slowly stirs cheap coffee in an old mug with the picture of the Egyptian pyramids (his younger sister brought it from vacation in Hurghada about ten years ago). Just one more day to endure. Then he'll head to the train station in the evening and hop on the suburban train. It will be hot and stuffy in the carriage, his shirt will instantly stick to his body. Outside the window there will be graffiti-adorned concrete fences, garage cooperatives, auto repair shops, old houses, vacant lots, new houses, more concrete fences, other people's dachas, and finally, dense forest. He'll get off at a station with a funny name and walk along a sandy road between fields overgrown with tall grass. In the country house inherited from his grandfather, it will smell familiarly of an old books. Ilya will brew strong coffee in his favorite red polka-dot mug (for some reason it will taste better than at home) and, sitting on the porch, will listen as unfamiliar nocturnal birds sing beyond the fence in the twilight-darkened pine forest. The itching need to transplant the distant raspberry bush growing by the tilted barn will swiftly push out all other thoughts and desires. He will finally take a deep breath—feeling oddly pleasant and serene, as if he had turned on Perez's mix for 5/8: radio.
