Flock 'o Mechanical Birds descends unto Valhalla

Stereo reduction of a 5-channel piece made with a short sample of a drummer warming up + micro-editing....“Drummy” is an acousmatic piece, whose only sound source is a short recording of a drum-set, captured at Oscar Peterson Concert Hall (Montréal) in 2017. It explores a shifting sense of space (acoustic, pitched, or other), the destruction and reassembly of temporal structures, and the sometimes vague line between gesture and texture.

To the Max

Schizophonia:
This piece looks at the intersection between human-sound (ie voice) and human-made sound (ie: trains, helicopters), in a sort of a meditation/ exploration of Schafer's concept of "Schizophonia" as "the split between an original sound and its electronic reproduction” (paraphrased Truax, 2001)- in this case, there are many small "splits", in the form of edits, re-configured to make something new. The source materials are re-recorded sounds from a reel-to-reel tape player, including the content on the tape, as well as the imperfections of the mechanisms as they age.

Schizo Phonia

This is not a "performance". Its a rehearsal/ run through of Danielle Savage's piece "Oso Rojo" (2015) by Orchestre symphonique de Montréal - OSM (www.osm.ca/en). Unfortunately, there is no "performance" of this piece to date, so this has been made available for archival purposes.

“In order to grow organs for transplant, humans need the right environment to grow them in. Recently, scientists have found that place, in the belly of a pig- and are now succeeding in inserting human stem cells into pig embryos. They have been raised to 28 days, in utero. It is still too controversial to bring these human-pig hybrids to full term. Dubbed “Chimera” (a term dating back to Greek mythology) by scientists, I imagine these beings as deliriously happy, but, ultimately, confused creatures, with strange breathing patterns- somewhere in between rhythmic human breathing, and the snorts of a pig.

While ruminating on this, I made the 5-channel piece “Chimera”, using sounds of human laughter, piano, and the Doepfer modular analog synthesizer, recorded during early 2017”

Teenagers is a 5-channel piece for sine tones, pink noise, and dictaphone mini-tapes. It explores, in abstract form, what teens have to say about themselves, and what adults have to say about teens. It draws on a collection of magnetic tape recordings made with a friend ca. 1999, in and around their high school

Whispers from Beyond the veil

This track is a series of 5 excerpts from a transdisciplinary exhibition entitled "Migration Parade", created in collaboration with sculptural textile artist, Alexandra Goodall. It is currently being developed into an interactive, 9-sculpture work.
