Soma welcome another name to its ever-growing roster in the form of Portuguese producer Lewis Fautzi who teams up with his own alias, Nuklear Default, to bring home 4 dark techno stompers. A main stay on the Portuguese techno scene, Lewis has been producing for some time now and his own brand of pulsing rhythms has earned him many fans throughout the techno community.

Title track ‘Turn’ launches this ep skywards with a ripping bass line that will tear speakers apart. Unrelenting drums whisk through you with peak time intensity as this powerful opener sears with non-stop energy.

Things take a deeper turn with ‘Anti-Cake’ as a slightly more subdued beat slowly filters in with hypnotic drums patterns and synths swirling calmly before bursting the track wide open. Only a short break in the track allows the listener a little respite as the deep sub bass bounces back in and the track continues to move at quite a pace.

‘Sinister’ is exactly what the name suggests. A dark, pulsing low end creeps around the base of this track while more rattling percussion keeps the momentum going. This is the perfect DJ tool that keeps its energy throughout.
  
‘Point’ closes the EP with an old school sound. Delayed synths filter in an out atop a rolling bass line and perfectly programmed drums. The synth hook tweeks over into the break giving way to an effective dance floor track.

This is a fantastic Soma debut from a young producer who surely has a bright future ahead of him

MOUTH TO MOUTH 10:

The original single came about during a very productive week for me. I made 5 songs in in 7 days right before one of the early DEMF festivals in Detroit. There was a great energy being shared by a lot of artists then, and I had just returned from a two week tour of Europe where I was ingesting so much new music. I sat down at my studio in Detroit and tried to recreate what I was hearing in the clubs. Mouth to Mouth was the stand out track of that session, and I made the entire thing in a few hours. I recorded it mostly live, tweaking and building the synths and muting/unmuting the channels in real time and just recording the result. I cleaned it up a little bit afterward, but left the length and overall arrangement intact. I remember playing it for a few people right away and it was clear something special was happening. There is something meditative in the simple repetition and slow build of it all. 

For this remix package, I chose every remixer. I went to my close friends, favourite remixers, and people I have always respected. There is such a diverse spread of talent with these artists, I knew every remix would be completely different. Each remix represents a different side of techno, which is where all of these artists come from. Everyone put a piece of themselves into this, and I'll forever be grateful to them for contributing to the project.

Afterlife and Tale Of Us are proud to announce ‘Realm Of Consciousness’, a 10-piece compilation
expanding the Afterlife totality into a label. The label and events will complement each other with one
aim; to bring the crowd into another dimension of music perception with enthralling production to that
ignite the senses.
The ‘Realm Of Consciousness’ voyage commences with Tale Of Us’ Lies - a fitting introduction with
quivering keys and restrained percussion that engenders an ominous suspense ahead of Monoloc’s
enigmatic industrial techno crunch, Phoenix. Shifting through the haunting chords of Recondite’s dynamic
Murphy’s Law, to the brooding synth of Poseidon by Ukrainian duo Woo York, the realisation of Afterlife
utopia is upon us. The repetitive, mesmerising synth and effective reverb that Somne creates with Triangle
is an odyssey within itself. From there, John Hester’s expertly woven ‘Logan’ is a feverish techno stab that
transverses through the emotional senses, transitioning to Locked Groove’s adroitly crafted Emeralds, to
Ryan James Ford’s ambient, albeit percussive, techno cut Toree Bahrstad. Die Wiederkehr is the outcome
of Obscure Shape & SHDW’s collaboration, which incorporates facets of techno and trance that have
been shaped with real guile and finesse. Mind Against round off the compilation with Gravity - a
mystifying ambience and a fitting title as we touch back down to planet earth.

Sebastian Mullaert is well known for his work as one half of the highly respected Swedish duo Minilogue, responsible for killer releases for the likes of Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels and Wagon Repair, alongside breathtaking live shows as a solo outfit as well as their joint live act with Matthew Jonson.

Working from the idilic setting of the mystical Swedish forest, Sebastian Mullaert has has been making serious waves on his solo artist journey, lending his signature hypnotic sound to labels like Mule Musiq, Drumcode, Minus, Kontra-Musik and Ovum. His one of a kind spellbinding live show is illuminating the world’s finest stages such as Panorama Bar - Berlin, Concrete - Paris, Fabric - London, Labyrinth Festival - Japan, Black Market - NYC to name a few and can be witnessed on his recent Boiler Room and XLR8R sessions. 

At nearly 13 tantric minutes long, ‘Windmaker’ bubbles and teases with freestyle keys with an almost Middle Eastern flavour, as Mullaert plays snake charmer to his machines, coaxing out deft melodies, airy cymbals and on point beats and percussion.  It’s a track to completely get lost in, crafted with fine sonics and a gloss that only an artist like Mullaert can achieve with ease.

The enigmatic Ukranian producer, Vakula, is drafted in to give a re-interpretation of ‘Windmaker’; edgy phased stabs puncture the minimal techno beat, bouncing and reverberating off the kick drum to create a glorious wall of dubby sound that compliments the original mix a treat.  Vakula has always impressed with his creative and original music for labels like Firecracker, Dekmantel and his own Leleka imprint, so it’s a privilege to have him remix on Hypercolour.

‘Bang The Box (Slam remix)’ retains the all-conquering vocal of the original, but plunges the track down into propulsive depths with more aggressive percussion and atmospheric synth stabs. 

Richie Hawtin provided the following comment on the remix: “Released in the early 90s, the original Jack Master EP was a pseudo-name that I used to record fun classic Chicago inspired tracks that were made for my DJ sets.  Slam’s new updated take on the original, uses the original voice sample (that’s actually mine) and reworks the track into a full throttle stomping jack track perfect for todays dance floors!”

For the second and last EP of Contemporary Spaces remixes, Dynamic Reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. Just like the first remix EP, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers.  
 
First off, it’s Perc’s interpretation of Glide. The UK-based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. He has made Glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn’t reach its energy peak until the last couple of
minutes. Matrixxman takes over with his Biohazard mix of Future Existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times.  
 
On the B-side, SHDW and Obscure Shape reshaped The Hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the EP. With its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. Dutch talent Ben Buitendijk also remixed Future Existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. A deep, though energetic track with a verymature sound. 
 
Lastly, as a digital bonus, Matrixxman remixed Immersion as well. The subby kick, old school rides and uplifting lead, make it into one of those secret weapons, waiting to be used on the night’s most worked-up moments.

In Your Body

The established duo Hertz Collision from Italy provides the latest
the Nursery Series, called Nowhere EP. And what a rendezvous it
is; the two have in no way lost their touch of magic since their last
contribution in early 2015. The result is another convincing piece of
modern day techno, produced in their recognisable own style.

But within that style, they skillfully demonstrate that there is plenty of room for variation. The EP opens with its title track, which heralds fragile though steady grooves accompanied by a bleepy, two-tone lead. From there onwards, the trip continues through the highly repetitive and magnetizing ‘To See Something with a Wideness’ into the thumping ‘Olon’.

The Netherlands’ rising star Stranger provides a remix, which is – as one might expect – his one rave-inspired version of the EP’s third track, containing his ever-present wink to the nineties.
Concluding: there is, yet again, a real treat to be found in this
package, and The Nursery continues to show that young age and
talent go hand in hand with techno from the top shelves.
