present is a short collection of my personal favorite beats which, collectively, explores the concepts of happiness and sadness, self-reflection, self-worth, love, and support. the word 'present' could mean a showcase, now, a gift, and simply being there. these are reflected in the EP through its two parts that show the phases of sadness and happiness. these parts are separated with a single track that encapsulates the word 'present'.

this is a story of hope, love, and redemption. i hope that you'll enjoy listening to my little story, and that it may inspire you to push forward. everything will be okay.

As the sun finally burrows its way into bed, you leave Ji-eun's apartment, finding the empty street outside lost in mist. You know your way back home but you don't take it. 

Throughout the city you find velvet gardens draped in the colors of nearby shop windows and cafes. The tender stare of a stranger, their face illuminated by phone light from below and street lamps from above. The steps you take start to melt into one another, softly being enveloped by some unknown force that carries you forward. 

The night blooms further, the light becomes more and more neon. The skyline turns obsidian and the same old doubts replay in your head. But the momentum of something greater than yourself pushes you forward. Into and then back out of the lights of different entrances, effecting your egress into the night over and over again. 

You lose track of time, slipping into ash filled streets farther from the center of the city. Outskirts where all color has been lost save for the silver rain of moonlight. An empty palette, a lake of mercury and ash, obsidian and velvet. Would any life have been lived the same as yours, City Girl?

Neon Impasse (full album)

Akemi started off as the idea to create a small and special piece of art that could encompass many different sounds and feelings. 

As the project progressed, the size of it grew. Three collaborations became five which ultimately grew to the outstanding number of 17. 

Akemi shows that artists with many different signature sounds can come together and create a cohesive project. 

Along with the music, the art itself was a large stand alone project. We wanted to create a surreal landscape showcasing an island far off in the distance.

It was an honor to curate this project and work with so many outstanding artists despite the countless hours of work and persistence. 

I believe that there is something for every listener on this project.
