A month on from Conrad's passing I was reminiscing to the second Bukem and Conrad Essential mix and thought I'd upload. Equally brilliant and revolutionary as their first Essential mix, this one built on the impeccable selection of 1995 with another slew of dubplates highlighting incredible tunes that would come out of Good Looking and a few other select labels over the coming years. The tunes ranged from intricate ambient workouts like Jonny L Tychonic Cycle to deep amen batterers like Universal's Live Session (which was a little different and better on dubplate). Some took a little longer such as the lost G-Force Proximity tune that didn't surface till only recently. It's no exaggeration to say all the tunes on this mix were peak golden age, particularly Crystl Mindgames and Intense Only You...

Again, Conrad absolutely rules this mix from start to finish with total confidence and deep soulful lyrics - beautiful stuff from the leading master of ceremonies. A perfect mix for a summer's day.

LTJ BUKEM-Drum & Bass Show Ep170 (Producer In Focus Series)

This mix presents a more chilled side of Dillinja. These are mostly tunes from '94 to '96, when he was a studio hermit putting in his 10,000 hours and finding his sound. The tough beats and chest crushing bass are present, but these earlier tracks have a breathy ambience that nicely balance the heaviness. IMO 30 years on they still smoke 99% of today's jungle revival tracks. Track list is below. Enjoy!

The deep side of Dillinja (Jungle dnb mix)

I've wanted to make this mix for almost 30 years; the tunes just didn't exist for it back then. Danny Breaks' "The Bear" blew my mind with its dark, electric jazz funk that fused Miles Davis with early Wu-Tang RZA. But in '96, it was sui generis, so it sat in my crate awaiting partners in crime.

In years since, I've tracked down other tunes with similar nocturnal menace. This isn't nostalgic "jazzy jungle" of keyboard presets and video games; it's shadows and criminals and blood-stained suits.

Some of the most exciting music in this vein is San's work for Rua Sound. The EPs are the closest thing I've heard to late '90s Source Direct, after they tipped headlong into darkness. SD-associated Odysee Recordings also carries on this spirit. Ornette Hawkins, with two tracks here, is the jazziest junglist out there; fellow AGN7 Audio artist Dacamera isn't far behind.

Fanu's criminally underrated collaboration with Bill Laswell gets one track here, but the whole album is worth hearing, full-on electric Miles worship. Speaking of which, the one tease here comes not from dnb, but from techno, Oliver Ho's mystical, millennial Miles invocation. Finally, the incomparable Sci-Clone presents two flip sides here - no anthems, just back alley vibes.

For the 3rd and final set of the night we had Goldie taking it back to the 90's in front of a sold out crowd, this is the last of the 3 recordings that we are uploading from this memorable mid-summer event. It was a special night in June of this year with 800+ people crammed into Xoyo's upstairs room (from pretty much before the very first needle was placed on the record until going past the nights extended close). Again a big thanks to Benji B for inviting us down to take over the room.
