Concurrently with the stellar rise of the local likes of Peggy Gou, yaeji or 박혜진 park hye jin, the thriving South Korean scene is also the native breeding ground of Juhwan You, better known as DJ Bowlcut. Starting his career as an award-winning hip-hop turntablist, he has now been a definite staple and a trendsetter in the Seoul dance community for a few years, paving the way for a scene built on leftfield house and techno. As the co-founder of Seoul Community Radio and member of the collective Hazed & Confucius, his goal is to provide a safe place for international DJs as well as local Korean talents to collaborate together and thus keep the underground dance music moving in the city. DJ Bowlcut's music signature comes from his versatile style; a blend of club-fit raw house, mid-tempo techno bangers and spot-on breakbeat to ensure the dancefloor stays electrified. No wonder that his productions on labels like Neoviolence, Nerang Recordings or Berlin Bass Collective have been getting both attention and approval from notable DJs such as Erol Alkan, Josey Rebelle or DJ Haus.
