I love this quote about Burial's production techniques, from journalist Derek Walmsley in The Wire: Burial decided at the outset to avoid at all costs the rigid, mechanistic path that eventually brought drum 'n' bass to a standstill. To this end, his percussion patterns are intuitively arranged on the screen rather than rigidly quantized, creating minute hesitations and slippages in the rhythm. His snares and hi-hats are covered in fuzz and phaser, like cobwebs on forgotten instruments, and the mix is rough and ready rather than endlessly polished. Perhaps most importantly, his basslines sound like nothing else on Earth. Distorted and heavy, yet also warm and earthy, they resemble the balmy gust of air that precedes an underground train.

Jacques Greene Dedications Dj Mix for Philippe Aubin-Dionne aka Jacques Greene. I made a dj mix dedicated to Jacques Greene aka Philippe Aubin-Dionne who has been such a huge influence on my music-making mindset. Jacques is the co-owner of Vase Records alongside former manager, Joe Coghill established in 2011. When asked about the first song he ever made in an interview with Billboard, Jacques Greene said, "I wanted it to be a cross between Timbaland and Boards Of Canada." Resident Advisor said his music is “an exercise in restless soul-searching, striking a delicate balance between struggle and serenity as if one necessitates the other.” Pitchfork wrote that Jacques “preached salvation on the dancefloor. Murmuring over a pulse-raising backdrop of classic acid, featured vocalist Cadence Weapon likened a night at the club to a church service, sketching out a familiar trope in vivid terms: outstretched hands, primal chants, beams of light illuminating the faithful.” Thank you Jacques (Philippe) for always being a source of inspiration and pushing the boundaries of dance music.
