The release is a distinctive sound of energetic italo, uncompromising EBM, cold electro, piercing acid and intensive techno. These are eleven tracks, including joint tracks with Larionov, Djedjotronic, as well as remixes from LVRIN and DJ Wedding.

We are insanely excited to present one of the brightest out-of-genre representatives of the electronic scene. Dust Devices is the experimental electronic music project of Cláudio Oliveira, a composer and sound designer from Porto, Portugal.
Since his first EP “Spectre Research” he has been blending the rhythmic influences from Industrial, EBM, Techno and Electro with cinematic textures, atmospheres and melodies derived from unconventional synthesis techniques.
He’s been able to showcase his music in multiple national and international venues and events, including the festivals Sonar, Semibreve and Neopop, and as a regular contributor for vinyl and digital releases of labels like Zodiak Commune Records, Diffuse Reality, Rapture and Mera.
“Spine Mirror”, his latest full-lenght album, extends those sonic explorations into a more dissonant, abrasive and mechanical approach, while breaking down and rearranging the compositional core of those genres.
Without losing sight of the elements that ignite a dancefloor, the narrative and evolving character of the music are the main focus of this project.

Which artists has influenced you the most? 
- Artists from the Industrial scene of the 80s/90s were the main reason I started exploring synthesizers and drum machines. 
Back in the day I was into Metal and artists like Fear Factory and Ministry provided the necessary crossover elements to grab me in, but projects like Skinny Puppy and NIN proved to me that those electronic machines were more than sound sources for atmospheric/background noises and could be used to write heavy music. 
At the same time, the "IDM" scene was becoming popular with Autechre, Aphex Twin and Amon Tobin and their innovative sound design/composition techniques were a major influence during those formative years, which continues to this day.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future? 
- I've had 4 releases so far this year. An experimental soundtrack album called "Abrupt", one track on a compilation by Elberec, one track on the first vinyl release by Rapture and an EP called "Ruins", out now via Diffuse Reality Records. 
Currently I'm working on a new track for a future release with Zodiak Commune Records and experimenting with some different themes and directions, which might end up on a new EP by the end of the year or a follow-up to my 2023 album "Spine Mirror".

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 
- To be honest, lately I've been trying to avoid listening to electronic dance music while I write my own stuff so I haven't been keeping up with that scene. 
I keep going back to the seminal releases by Warp, Skam and Rephlex as I love the grainy 90's sound and textures of those artists. FSOL releases like "Lifeforms" are also timeless; the narrative aspect of that music really resonates with me.  

What inspires you now to create music? 
- That changes all the time! It might be a movie, a single picture, an accidental sound from a synth or sampler... But I've been having lots of fun experimenting with odd time signatures, patterns and "riffs" inspired by Metal bands and adapting those to an electronic music context. My album "Spine Mirror" is based around those concepts but I feel I barely scratched the surface.

What set-up do you use when creating music?
- I sequence almost everything on Ableton but some ideas start on hardware. Some of the stuff I use all the time: Ensoniq Fizmo, Roland JD800, Arturia Microfreak, Elektron Monomachine and Korg MS2000. 
I also have a soft spot for old & obsolete software and have been exploring that world for the past couple of years, some stuff is really inspiring!
