Written by Paul McCartney and released near the end of the band’s existence on the Let It Be album in 1970, something made Craig try it out for our own style. It was a live home recording and we liked it. Nat then took it and added her magic harmonies and piano to pretty it up so nicely. Made it a very much more straight forward country folk sound with the accent on the lovely lyrics.

With Halloween soon upon us and all the creepy fun that it entails, we wanted to do something a little different from the usual ghouls, goblins and ghosts for this year’s fun. Nat had this idea to have a play with the great pop song David Bowie wrote and made famous in 1969. A song that speaks perhaps to drug addiction as much as anything to do with the vast and gloriously scary expanse of outer space, we tried to put our own Daniels & Durgy spin on it. Though generally in line with Bowie’s fantastic composition, we made some subtle changes to introduce a little love interest to the picture...does his wife actually work as one of the Ground Controllers?! Enjoy the journey and Happy Halloween everyone!

Space Oddity

Space Oddity (Bowie cover)

Quite some time ago, I made a quick “live” recording of this classic old Beatles song. It was just to serve as an example of how Nat & I might try doing a proper recording at some future time. But as Nat has so often managed to do, she added her beautiful harmonies and piano work and other production touches to make something out of it that we both now feel is well worthwhile. This song was written by John Lennon and released on the 1965 Beatles album “Help!”.

It’s Only Love

Nat and I are both long-time fans of the great crooner, Roy Orbison. Like us, it seems he was a hopeless romantic, so we have contemplated this cover for some time. But it was a challenge to change it up from the classic original that Roy recorded back in 1961. Here we’ve given it a bit of a spin in several ways. Most notably you’ll hear us divide the song into two parts, the man who cries and the woman who goodbyes. Hopefully Roy would approve, but most importantly we hope you’ll enjoy this take on “Crying”. The Beatles were a profound influence on so many of us that grew up during the 60’s, musically, culturally and emotionally. The frenzy they stirred while somehow mostly evoking a certain playful joy will never cease to touch my memories of growing up with hope and enthusiasm. This song covers one of their beautiful old-school ballads, written by John Lennon, and providing a bit of a contrast to their signature rocking hits. It was released in 1963 as a single that ended up on their 1964 album, “Meet The Beatles”. I’ve always loved how it pulled together a bit of the 50’s slow-dance beauty with John’s emotive vocal delivery and the groups tight harmonies and overall Beatles vibe. Happily, Nat was glad to give this cover a go as we revved it up with a somewhat country-bluegrass feel while trying to hold onto some of that Fab 4 charm.

This Boy

This Boy (Beatles cover)

Another live interpretation of an old classic love song, this one was originally written by Jimmy Duncan and first recorded by the Sonny Land Trio back in 1957. But this caught most of our attention from the Bobby Helms recording later that same year. I’ve also been a big fan of the version released in 1968 by The Vogues. This started as a live recording that Nat once again brought to full life with her beautiful accompanying vocals and instrumental nuances.

My Special Angel

My Special Angel (Cover)

Another classic love song made most famous by the one and only Elvis Presley with his 1961 release as part of the soundtrack album “Blue Hawaii”. It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore & George David Weiss (Gladys Music, Inc.). This is based on a live recording that we feel captures the essence of the lovely emotions the song expresses.

Can’t Help Falling In Love

This beautiful ballad was written by Michael Nesmith, probably best known as one of The Monkees, but remembered here as a solo artist. Sadly this was his only top 40 success though I feel he had other well written efforts. This is another one of our recordings that started with a raw live performance with some minor post-live enhancements.

Joanne - Live (Cover)

Our interpretation of the classic Neil Diamond song from 1969. His tribute to the Kennedy years of the 60's and a sweet oldie to revisit, even when it isn't the 7th inning stretch at Fenway. This song has special meaning to me as it was played often on the car radio as my dad and I explored the Canadian Maritimes that same summer on a camping/fishing trip that included watching the historic moon landing during our one motel night (with a tv, of course). Hearing this song always brings back that wonderful memory, that magical time of life at only 12 years old. Hope you enjoy what Nat and I did here, with our own Daniels & Durgy version.

Sweet Caroline

Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond Cover / Live)

Written by two Frenchmen, Pierre Delanoe (lyrics) and Gilbert Becaud (music) this now famous Everly Brothers recording from 1960 was originally recorded in French as “Je t’appartiens” by Gilbert Becaud. Nat and Craig feed on classic vocal harmonies and naturally greatly admire what the Everlys did with this beautiful love song. We cover this in a way that fairly closely follows the Everly approach.
