Six releases in and Michigander label head Brian Kage teams up with the legendary French Techno producer, Taho, aka David Jacopin. The electronic music world knows to put respect on the Motor City, but the "Détroit EP" represents a fusion, emphasizing l’accent aigu — not a typo or spec on your screen that needs cleaning. Between Kage and Taho, their production pedigree includes releases for labels like FXHE, Planet-E, Delsin, F.Comm, and more, so it's no surprise the pairing makes for a masterfully produced EP covering the spectrum of Detroit house and techno sounds, with an added deft touch from its French connection.

"D-Twah," the D's first pronunciation, opens with classic Detroit house energy featuring all the modern accoutrements. Distant chatter between solar systems gives way to a springy bass line that sets off an interplanetary party starter with uplifting piano chord progressions and just a touch of scattered cosmic disco effects. Angelic synth choirs and arpeggiated lines introduce short breakdowns before all systems fire back up. This one is surefire fuel for the discothèque.

"La Belle Vie" picks things up with playful hand percussion, a driving guttural bass, and heavy Detroit techno stabs, reminiscent of its title in translation, one of techno's greatest hits a la Inner City. Beautiful strings sneak in building tension and drama before a piano releases any pent up energy through the stratosphere. It begs to bring on the underground warehouses or Movement festival stages again.

Entering electro terrain, "Tour De Troit" encapsulates Detroit's earliest robotic impulses, starting with inimitable, snappy 808 drums, which are pedaled over with deep pads and a revolving acid bassline. It drifts off into dreamy territory with smooth, jazzy synth waves before funky keys coolly cut through the haze. Whether early in the night or afterhours, breakers are always prepared to slide across the floor for this sound.

"Acid Renaissance" offers a clear epilogue to this journey with its cinematic and orchestral symphony. These emotive elements tower over electric undercurrents that complete an ending fit for having stumbled upon some epic space age discovery. At a time when NASA's Mars Perseverance Rover just provided the first audio recording of the Red Planet, this could very well have been the film score to that mission.

If Detroit's electronic music history is seen as a time capsule, Brian Kage and Taho have opened it, rearranged its parts to fit their mutual influences, and sealed it back together with a project worthy of future explorations.

To celebrate their fifth anniversary, Den Haag label Times Are Ruff are coming with a special fourth entry into their No Dough, Just Cookies compilation series. While previous releases in the No Dough line have been limited to one disc, TAR has doubled up on this one--placing the likes of Fouk, S3A, Liem & Eddie Ness and in-house DJ team Times Are Ruff themselves. It's a cool collection of tunes displaying the mixture of both the deep house and disco-leaning aesthetics the Dutch label has harbored over the course of their run.
Your Bolting Bits premiere comes from the first slot of this seven track release. At the helm is the unknown K98, who comes correct with gospel-tinged disco house jam. Filtered samples build tension over a drum machine, using looped vocals and organ stabs to raise the energy. The rises and falls are cleverly designed, resulting in a jammy and climactic final third which unleashes more of the vocal sample as well as a chopped up solo. This one should certainly find success on the dancefloor and in DJ's crates, given the monstrous reception of gospel-sampling house tracks like thatmanmonkz' "For Bae" or Karizma's ever-rinsed "Work It Out".

The compilation itself has something for everyone--ranging from the gospel/disco house stylings of our premiere to more moody deep house and even some acid-tinged material. Anyways, the 2x 12" should be out soon, and can be preordered on Decks

We are really excited to share this premiere with you today from label Gents & Dandy's. With its roots firmly planted in house it has been going strong since its inception in 2014. Label owner Khillaudio brings us the latest release which is comprised of his new original "Swingin' Times". In addition the EP consists of two incredible remixes coming from Das Carma x RMR and the focus of our premiere comes from the one and only Sebb Junior. This Spanish producer ironically is known for his french inspired house music filled with his infectious grooves and melodies. He has put a wonderful spin on the original and taken us to a special place.

Sebb starts off the remix with a tantalizing vocal along with the lovely Rhodes style piano from the original while the main groove sort of hangs out in the background teasing us. A fun little bass line peaks its way through from time to time gradually becoming more consistent. Eventually  setting us up for the introduction of the main groove. Its one of those classic house grooves that Sebb is so well know for creating. Nothing fancy or flashy, no big build ups or drops but when it hits, it is pure magic for the mind body and soul. Full of vibrant chords and an infectious bass line it is hard not to feel a certain way when this track hits your ears. The first time this touched my ears I was instantly drawn into the song and couldn't help but start bouncing to the beat. Not many songs are that impactful the moment you first hear them. Keep an eye on this one it has classic written all over it. Look out for the full release on May 4th from @gentsndandysrecords
