Following Muriel Grossmann, Nat Birchall, Chip Wicham and fellow Frenchman Florian Pellissier, I am thrilled to welcome another of my favorite contemporary jazz musicians: Matthew Halsall!

Label manager of Gandwana Records (Portico Quartet, Hania Rani, Dwight Trible Allysha Joy, …), Matthew dove into this guest session alternating between spiritual and free jazz of Alice Coltrane, John Coltrane, Don Cherry, Donald Byrd, McCoy Tyner, Yusef Lateef with some newer future jazz classics like his  Gondwana Orchestra and fellow UK jazz greats Wildflower.

As for me, I put together a mix in two parts. An introduction with spiritual jazz and ambient touches starting with Floating Points' project with Pharoah Sanders. Closing out the show with more dynamic sounds of Jazz Fusion and Broken Beat to close out with an incredible new track from the STR4TA project!

"For the last six months or so I’ve been religiously attending DJ Clyde’s Sunday Night Roll at Skateland in Northridge. True roller skating culture was not something I grew up with, so for me, seeing this place for the first time was mind-blowing. The first thing I noticed was the majority of the skaters were middle aged (or “grown and sexy” as Clyde likes to say.) They were impressively skilled, many of them with custom skates made from oxford shoes. This was and is a place for people who see roller skating as a way of life. The most notable element for me was DJ Clyde the Glide’s hand-selected funk/soul music and how deeply the skaters lost themselves in it. He was playing the types of records I had been digging for, but presented in a new way. This mix is inspired by the music played Sunday nights at Skateland. Enjoy." - Daniel T

Noche de Luna en Jalapa

Operating out of Melbourne, here is a group who have been showcasing jazz and diy experimentalism in a whole new light.

The four piece group have been making waves amidst funk, soul and jazz communities the world over and most recently released a nine track album via longstanding UK based imprint Mr Bongo, a label which has become an authority in the sound. 

"All News Is Good News" was released in July and was met with critical acclaim, it was well received and showcased the instrumental capabilities of a group very much on the rise. 

We invited them to piece together a mixtape, they do so in fine style.

Daniel T. is a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer. A longtime record collector and digger, Daniel has become a local authority on bygone music. He hosts regular radio shows on Dublab (Crosseyed & Painless) and NTS (Tuff Shed). Daniel started making music a decade ago as one half of Cosmic Kids. Alongside Ron Poznansky, he made a name for himself producing heady house and astral dance tunes, and releasing originals and remixes with cult labels Throne of Blood, Let’s Play House and DFA. 

After a handful of releases with Cosmic Kids, Daniel pivoted toward his own project as Daniel T. His solo output is inspired by everything that you might find leafing through his record collection: funk, post punk, new age and pop of yesteryear (think: Compass Point All Stars to Yellow Magic Orchestra). The music he releases as Daniel T. is a reflection of his global taste filtered through his Southern California surroundings.

Daniel T.’s solo debut, a mini-album titled Tetrachromat, was released in 2015 on Young Adults, to a burst of acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Resident Advisor. In 2018, Daniel released a full length on Cascine entitled Heliotrope. In contrast to the steady dance-oriented tempos of Tetrachromat, Heliotrope moves across more dynamic landscapes.
