Hi everybody! I’m very happy to get my friend, the legendary Shuya Okino as guest for my new Show. Deep Jazz music is going strong, and as usual I have selected the best of my new discoveries from 2020

Omer Avital, Village of the Sun with Binker and Moses, the last great Web Web Album on Compost Records and a new extract from the recent Jazz phenomenon: the Jazz is Dead project by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

Some legendaries jazz artists, still active, have produced some great featuring like Gary Bartz, Dee Dee Bridgewater and The Last Poets for our greatest pleasure.

Shuya Okino and me have, of course, both paid small tribute to the music of Bill Withers, who passed away a couple of days before to join for ever the « City of the Angels ».

Magical Mystery Mix Part 1

Copenhagen based party starter Dj Universe presents a mix of 100% Azymuth: 

"In February 2015 my friends Sean and Anthon booked Azymuth for a show in Copenhagen and somehow I ended up juggling the roles of being the designated driver, camera man and warm up DJ for the concert. I will never forget those days. The group turned the depressing Danish winter into summer at the snap of a finger just with their presence and the concert itself had one of the most diverse audiences I’ve ever experienced in Copenhagen, all coming together under the warm Azymuth groove. 

Narrowing down 40 years of great music down to a 1h 47m mix was a tough process and I know there are some obvious ones missing, nevertheless I tried my best to grasp and represent the versatile soundscape the group has left behind. The mix spans over 4 decades and about 75 BPM, from the shade of the palm tree to the floor in the club, and I hope it can provide just a little of the magic that I felt witnessing the group play live."

DJ Universe - Flying Over The Horizon (Azymuth Mix)

Operating out of Melbourne, here is a group who have been showcasing jazz and diy experimentalism in a whole new light.

The four piece group have been making waves amidst funk, soul and jazz communities the world over and most recently released a nine track album via longstanding UK based imprint Mr Bongo, a label which has become an authority in the sound. 

"All News Is Good News" was released in July and was met with critical acclaim, it was well received and showcased the instrumental capabilities of a group very much on the rise. 

We invited them to piece together a mixtape, they do so in fine style.

Daniel T. is a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer. A longtime record collector and digger, Daniel has become a local authority on bygone music. He hosts regular radio shows on Dublab (Crosseyed & Painless) and NTS (Tuff Shed). Daniel started making music a decade ago as one half of Cosmic Kids. Alongside Ron Poznansky, he made a name for himself producing heady house and astral dance tunes, and releasing originals and remixes with cult labels Throne of Blood, Let’s Play House and DFA. 

After a handful of releases with Cosmic Kids, Daniel pivoted toward his own project as Daniel T. His solo output is inspired by everything that you might find leafing through his record collection: funk, post punk, new age and pop of yesteryear (think: Compass Point All Stars to Yellow Magic Orchestra). The music he releases as Daniel T. is a reflection of his global taste filtered through his Southern California surroundings.

Daniel T.’s solo debut, a mini-album titled Tetrachromat, was released in 2015 on Young Adults, to a burst of acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Resident Advisor. In 2018, Daniel released a full length on Cascine entitled Heliotrope. In contrast to the steady dance-oriented tempos of Tetrachromat, Heliotrope moves across more dynamic landscapes.
