Claremont 56 founder Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy has been in a rich vein of creative form of late. Having released his first solo album in 18 years in 2024, the effervescent and picture-perfect 'In The Garden of Mindfulness', Murphy is well on his way to finishing solo LP number three – a set you’ll be able to hear in full later in 2025.

To get us in the mood, he’s offering up a two-track taster featuring instrumental takes on cuts that will appear as full-vocal songs on the final album. Both were written with, and feature instrumentation by, regular collaborator Michele Chiavarini, an Italian musician,
producer, composer, and arranger who has long been part of the Claremont 56 family.

Up first is ‘Mahalo (Instrumental Mix)’, a languid and emotion-rich groover built around a smooth, mid-tempo jazz-funk-goes-disco groove – think crispy drums, delay-laden hand percussion and rubbery bass guitar – and all manner of ear-catching musical details. As the track unfolds, you can expect to hear lilting strings, warming electric piano chords, mazy synth solos, heady horn-style blasts and glistening, eyes-closed guitar licks. It’s a genuinely superb slab of musically rich dancefloor warmth.

The track that follows, ‘Mata Ne’, is an altogether dreamier and more dub-influenced affair. Featuring some sublime piano playing from Chiaivarini, it sees Murphy layer simmering strings, cascading guitar licks, spacey synths and blissed-out melodic motifs atop
the kind of chunky, dubby groove that has long been one of his aural trademarks. Offering positivity and melancholia in equal measure, ‘Mata Ne’ is Mudd at his most musically majestic. His forthcoming album will be worth waiting for.

Eddie C is a Canadian DJ, producer, and vinyl enthusiast known for his warm, groove-driven blend of disco, house, funk, and balearic sounds. Originally from Southern Ontario, Eddie’s musical journey began in the late ‘80s, influenced by hip-hop and the early acid house scene. He started by making tape edits of late-night radio shows and immersing himself in warehouse parties.

His diverse taste and deep record knowledge were honed through years of university radio and 1990s raves, eventually leading him to craft eclectic, soulful DJ sets that span boogie, slo-mo disco, and deep house.

In 2010, Eddie founded Red Motorbike, a vinyl-only label that’s become a cult favorite for its dusty, analog-inspired cuts. His productions and edits have appeared on respected labels like Razor-N-Tape, Endless Flight, and Crue-L Records.

Now based in Vancouver Island - after leaving Berlin in 2020 and being a nomad for three years - he continues to tour internationally, thanks to his soulful, genre-blending sets and unwavering dedication to underground music culture.

Coyote & Secret Soul Society IIb? Party Bodega Secret Garden

Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, continues his red-hot streak of form with four original jams for Hell Yeah that effortlessly weave decades of influences into intimate, unusual sounds that go from Balearic daydreams to after-hours soul burners.

Gibson was one-half of Nottingham's deep house and downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, a collective that label head Marco has long admired. He has landed here before with the superb Keep The Mystique in 2023, a 15-track collection of brand new curveball cuts built from lovingly sourced samples. Since then, he has continued to collide jazz, funk, Afro, beats, dub, soul and reggae on Paper Wave and Magic Wand.

'Happy To Be' opens with gentle, sun-soaked grooves, swirling keys and dreamy pads that evoke a hazy Mediterranean sunset. Nostalgic soul samples tug at the heart while the track’s laid-back vibe is perfect for golden-hour moments. 'Orange Surprise' is a magical slice of downtempo bliss with hints of romantic vocals. It's built on soft broken rhythms and drifts between ambient soul and laid-back electronica, perfect for introspective moments or late-night winding down.

'Keep On Trying' flips the script with more texture. The synths are crystalline, the pads are sugary, and the meandering bassline unfolds in wonky fashion while soft male vocals bring a steamy edge. Last but not least, 'What You Do To Me' is funky and slow motion disco with 80s synths and reverb that drowns you in good vibes.

This EP is Secret Soul Society at his most expressive and emotive.

Londoner Cazbee was part of the first generation of UK graffiti writers in the 1980's. A DJ and collector for nearly 30 years, he guested at legendary UK raves, Sunrise, Energy and Biology back in the heyday of acid house. He now releases edits alongside Richard Sen on their Mixed Blood Cuts label focusing on the leftfield sound of early house, disco, newave, african and rock. The Cazman features all of the above in his DJ sets and continues digging on his motorbike daily, look for new Mixed Blood edits, peep his great wall pieces, and hopefully catch him playing at one of his DL basement jams. In a world of hype, Caz keeps it quiet on the set, it is refreshing to meet someone who is NOT about self promotion.....

DJ Garth is a pioneering house music DJ, Grayhound recordings honcho, and one of the members of The Wicked crew, (along with DJ's Jeno, Thomas Bullock, and Markie), credited with revolutionizing dance music in San Francisco. (and subsequently taking the act and Turbo sound on the road in a 1947 Greyhound bus) In 1998 Garth founded Grayhound recordings. Grayhound became the home label for his own projects including singles with Markie and as Rocket with Eric James. The label went on to release 53 singles from California recording artists including DJ Garth & E.T.I., Rocket, Defenders of the Faith, Wicked, Mirror Boys, DJ Harvey, Nectar, Stranger, Rasoul, EBE & Michoacan. Garth has done numerous remixes for the likes of, A Tribe Called Quest, The Glimmers, Perry Farrell, Faithless, The Units etc.....

Garth and his longtime partner Jeno still do their Back to Back parties, and The Wicked Crew is reuniting this July to celebrate 20+ years, you can also catch Garth worldwide on tour and on the big screen as he has added acting to his palette of artistic endeavors. Daniel T is a California-based DJ and producer. A longtime record collector and digger, Daniel has become a local authority on bygone music. He hosts regular radio shows on Dublab (Crosseyed & Painless) and NTS (Tuff Shed). He started making music 15 years ago as one half of Cosmic Kids, who made a name for themselves producing heady house and astral dance originals and remixes for cult labels Let’s Play House and DFA. In the years leading up to the pandemic, Daniel and his former DJ partner Wyatt left an indelible mark on Los Angeles with their beloved series of Heat-Wave parties.

Daniel's solo output is inspired by everything that you might find leafing through his diverse record collection: disco, international funk, post punk, reggae, and off-kilter pop. He has released original productions and edits for Cascine, Razor N Tape, and Pleasure of Love.
