There’s something about the old streets of Lisbon: you might be walking past a door and hear a bit of marrabenta and then, further down the street, hints of semba or funaná coming from the open window of a passing car. Lisbon is full of these sounds. And smells, and colours.
D-Mars, a producer who also goes by the name of Rocky Marsiano, grew up as an artist among these Lisbon streets, where he formed a hip hop group with direct ties to Cape Verde and Angola.
Africa was always close, always present. And hip hop taught him that vinyl records are pathways into the past and future, when put to good use in the hands of a DJ or in the inner circuits of an MPC sampler. D-Mars, now residing in Amsterdam, challenged Rui Miguel Abreu, a friend, an ally, a co-conspirator on many past adventures, to select some records from his personal collection.
The result is a batch of vinyl from Cape Verde and Angola, from Mozambique and São Tomé. D-Mars dove in, extracted the deepest grooves from the significant slabs of black plastic, and reimagined Africa with the help of his MPC. Meu Kamba is the result: re-edits with the soul of classic African vinyl, beats that try to answer the wildest of questions – what if b-boys danced to semba instead of funk?

Presenting a rare find: a 1990 recording showcasing Derrick May's set at the legendary RoXY Club. Recently rescued and digitized from the depths of my cassette tape collection, this relic was recorded from Radio 100, a beloved pirate radio station in Amsterdam. Despite the less-than-ideal sound quality, every crackle and hiss adds to the charm of this vintage vinyl mix. It offers a glimpse of a bygone era.

Atangana’s first releases will be looking at the Caribbean’s Islands, especially into Haiti with the reissue highly expected by various diggers – of the acclaimed single « Divizion » by singer Fedia Laguerre. Originally released in 1981, this first 12" will come with a Voilaaa remix and an instrumental cut exclusively based on the additional work by the french afro collective.

Founded in 2018 by dj and producer Deni-Shain – the man behind acclaimed compilations Space Echo and Pop Makossa -, Atangana Records is the logical follow-up to more than 20 years of travel, constantly on the look out for new artists and music around the world.

As a « tropicalist globetrotter », in this new project Deni-Shain, in partnership with Thomas Vicente, co-owner of the french restaurant Le Verre Volé aims to dig, reproduce & transmit cross-cultural music, usually unreachable and/or less known by the public.
The goal is simple : to share the love of music and to rediscover the pleasure of voicings, percussions and sadly forgotten harmonies, whether you find yourself in a jam packed club or the intimacy of your home.

Zulu Vibes est heureux de vous présenter son 4ème maxi 12’’ 
Pour cette release, nous avons fait un retour dans le roots 70’s.

Sur la face A, « Alpha & Omega », riddim inspiré par le mythique « Chant Away » de Carlton Coffee, la Zulu Vibe Riddim Section associé à Meekman présentent leur vision du heartbeat style, un riddim deep et mystique, accompagné de sa section nyabinghi. 
Au lead vocal nous retrouvons Jonnygo Figure, figure montante du Reggae à New York et récemment produit par Bent Backs Records (Brooklyn), nous chantant l’importance de la balance homme-femme. 
Aux backing vocal; Jr Roy, Twan Tee, Amelia Harmony et les Irie Mates. 

Sur la face B, « Why Dem A Fight We Down », riddim inspiré par le « Concrete Castle King » de Dennis Emmanuel Brown, un rockers interprété par la Zulu Vibes Riddim Section accompagné de Ifi au percussions.
Au lead, Twan Tee (présent aux back sur la face A) nous livre un message engagé contre le système politique et ses dérives, le mutisme et l’absence d’écoute de la part de ses représentants. Il met en lumière la nécessité de la part des hommes et femmes de ce monde à se défendre face à cette menace qui dure depuis longtemps.

Le mastering a été effectué par Dub Creator.
Le graphisme a été réalisé par Peah Rootical Attack.
