One late lonely evening, a decade ago I plugged in, got a bit rhythmic and smoothed my idea out with some ambient spacious guitars. Added punchy bass with a wash of light synth work taking advantage of a wide stereo image. Managed to 80sify the depth of stereo fieldwhile working on headphones, hence so much reverb and a power ballad vibe.

Back In Time

Pre 2020, I was demoning an untuned 40 year old Hohner D6 resulting in a bit of jam. Worked out some variations on a riff, then overdubbed some ridiculous improvised stuff - mostly nonsense, what a clutter!

Thanks to a certain Mister Guy for playing lead guitar on this and complimenting our syncopation almost immediately! Good job friend!
The ending has a certain party vibe!


A later rendition may have whistles flutes and recorders / Ocarinas / whistles / cazoos whatever silly party instruments there are and less guitar noodling!

Work on it started rapidly in 2009. I have a habit of overworking arrangements and mixes, coming back to them and adding parts, removing the subtlest of changes and archiving projects over and over.

Autumn Wander

I decided to remix and finalise in 2025 the acoustic version of a song from 2015.
It’s a beautiful song sung by a fellow musician from years ago. 
Close microphones with a direct sounding mix, it is an intimate recording. 

John's guitar is recorded with a classical Decca Tree 3 microphone arrangement for a classic phase polar patter. One microphone is a Reslosound ribbon figure of 8 cardioid - pictures in many Beatles pictures from the 1960s.

FX is a hardware Lexicon LPX unit providing ambience dialled to site far back in the mix.

I played a simple piano part to accompany the guitar, which could be improved, but whatever!

Abandoned experimental and unfinished dream pop track I wrote circa 2010s. John volunteered to add some of his own vocals and lyrics, so I recorded and produced him, leaving me to tweak away. Then I never got around to finishing it. I may rework it again soon, it’s got unfinished potential.
