Greatest Show On Earth

I wrote this one for my hero... who just so happens to also be my dad. 

First Call

This is a recording from a rehearsal I had with Wes Harllee before a show last week when we decided to "throw in some Christmas tunes". It is imperfect. It was recorded with my iPhone in my voice memos. We make several mistakes and I had no intention on sharing it with anyone other than my mom (who loves all things Christmas) but she encouraged me to put it online.  "But Mom, I didn't record it in a studio. We literally just ran through it once and I messed up approximately 18 times (give or take)." And then it dawned on me: Christmas isn't perfect. And although we watch a million commercials that lead us to strive for perfection- it is FAR from perfect because that isn't reality. However, Christmas IS about lifting spirits. It's about SINGING those songs that lift our soul and flood us with memories from our childhood. It's about restoring our faith; restoring the magic of the season. It's about live performance- such as this rough rehearsal- a unique once in a lifetime event that can't be repeated (even if the songs can)- that EXACT performance can't (just like our lives)- and the magic, well, that lives in the imperfections. The human element is what makes us connect- NOT spending a ton of money in a studio so you can hear the auto-tuned version of a "perfectly ideal" performance (which doesn't exist in reality). So with that, please enjoy my very real, very imperfect Christmas songs. And please, feel free to sing along.
