Uma colecionadora nata, Sama Yax (aka Ainara) coleciona origens, vinis e experiências. Entre o México, Bilbao e Barcelona, hoje está radicada no Porto onde no som se joga entre o Disco, o Latin, o Afrobeat, o House, a música Brasileira e o Jazz. Na vida, é Dj residente do lendário clube Nitsa e já fechou o palco principal do Primavera Sound em 2019 ao lado do DJ Rosario, onde também coordena o departamento de reservas do festival e é uma das principais instigadoras do protocolo vigente “No calem”, destinado a conscientizar o público e ajudar mulheres vítimas de comportamentos sexistas. Em suma, é a imagem viva da expressão “lute pelo seu direito de festejar e festeje pelo seu direito de lutar”.

A natural-born collector, Sama Yax (aka Ainara) collects origins, vinyls and experiences. Between Mexico, Bilbao and Barcelona, she is currently based in Porto where she continues to keep her research between Disco, Latin, Afrobeat, House, Brazilian and Jazz. In life, she’s a resident DJ at the legendary Nitsa club in Barcelona and has already closed the Saturday-night main stage at Primavera Sound in 2019 alongside DJ Rosario, where she also coordinates the booking department at the festival and is one of the main instigators for applying the “No callem” protocol, aimed to raise public awareness and offer help for females that are victims of sexist behavior. In sum, she’s the living image of the line “fight for your right to party, and party for your right to fight”.

Sungazing is a mix from the music of Sungate Records, Spain run by Moy Santana.

Since 2017 the label has released a series of digital and physical eps, elegantly balancing the sounds of deep techno, electro and dub techno grooves.  It is no coincidence that numerous favourite producers have appeared on the label.   I hope you enjoy this interpretation!

For the next slot in our MIXED BY series, we would like to introduce an extremely special selector who goes by the name of Mendel. While many DJs work to send dancers solely into a tizzy of energy, Mendel tends to focus more on bringing people closer together with a seamless stitching of music spanning the entire spectrum of time and genre. Throwing in tracks and edits made 50 years apart that rub against one another in novel ways, Mendel never ceases to create a truly timeless feeling with his sets.

We are so grateful that Mendel has taken the time to both grace us with yet another sample of his skill, and to answer some questions we have about how he keeps moving forward and looking backward at the same time.
