A composer of ~new music~

Dan McGee is a composer who currently attends New England Conservatory studying with Kati Agocs, as well as in NYC with composer/pianist Timo Andres and Chris Cerrone. After graduating Interlochen Arts Academy, Dan took a gap year to study with both Timo and Molly Joyce to explore his compositional style, craft, and creative process. During this time, he wrote a viola concertino which helped him win his first commission through the New York Youth Symphony First Music commissioning project — the Convergence Ensemble premiered his piece in Carnegie Hall in May of 2018. Along with receiving a First Music commission, he is also a two time Morton Gould Young Composer Award finalist as well as a finalist for the Texas State Symphony Orchestra commission competition.

Currently, at New England Conservatory, Dan has had the opportunity to write for the Holes in the Floor cello quartet, who recently gave the world premier of his piece at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston on April 5th, 2019. Other current projects include a new work for the Escape Ensemble through the Escape2Create program,  a new violin concerto, and a mixed chamber piece for Yale’s summer New Music Workshop (Norfolk) where he will participate under a Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship. His works have been performed in Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, the Museum of Fine Arts - Boston, Corson Auditorium, Martha’s Vineyard, and more.
