Sunday Morning is a mix series dedicated to pushing artists and labels who intend on pursuing the beauty in downtempo/chill-wave music. The focus is centered on experimental yet eloquent productions. This mix series is made in order to wind down and relax after a long night out, or simply listen to something other than dance music. I grew up with record labels like M3rck and Schematic based out of Miami, and have always searched for mixes which included these sort of sounds after a long weekend of traveling. Having not found many, I decided to make this an ongoing series. Enjoy the soundscape. - Daze

First up for The Mix is Danny From Miami 🌴

@dannydaze takes us on a trip through Miami dance music history, diving into the irregular rhythms he grew up with and nodding to the new wave of flag-bearers. It also features an in-depth interview, exploring  his journey from childhood DJing to time in prison to rising up as Miami’s favourite figurehead, and the first explanation of the concept behind his long-awaited debut album ‘::BLUE::’.

"With this mix, my intention is to show a side of the IDM world I grew up with, steering away from the misconception that IDM is chaotic kitchen utensil-like sounds. I wanted to show a softer side focused on “danceable IDM” and electro. Music you can still bop your head to. As a youngster, I grew up dancing to non-traditional rhythms coming out of labels like M3rck, Schematic, and Beta Bodega, so I wanted to represent quite a bit of this Miami-infused sound along with some newer acts I’ve been immensely into at the moment," he says.

The Mix is our new online mix and interview series, dedicated to the spectrum of electronic music from around the globe, exploring sounds and stories from the early days of rave to the future. 

Mixmag has a long history of publishing mixes, from our legendary cover CDs accompanying the print magazine to our worldwide video streams in The Lab. Last year we celebrated 40 years in the game and The Mix now arrives as a fresh outlet to document DJs and the musical movements they represent, showcasing their sound alongside an in-depth interview. The design pays homage to a previous Mixmag logo from the ealy ’90s, nodding to our heritage while using the square and rectangular building blocks to construct an aesthetic that works cohesively with contemporary design elements and digital motion systems. 

We’ll still be bringing you the Cover Mix, The Lab and occasional sets in other formats, with The Mix is taking the place of our In Session and Impact features, intending to bring an updated look and vision to our flagship weekly DJ profile and sequencing them into one place, without separation. We hope you enjoy.

Roe Deers is a Lithuanian-based audio-visual project led by Liudas and Oskaras, two besties, often mistaken for brothers. Liudas first started DJ’ing at his parents’ club at the age of 12 while Oskaras made his transition from a geek kid into a proper visual artist. The two met while clubbing in their teenage years and eventually developed a shared taste for what’s right on the dance floor. On the Independence Day of Lithuania they picked an oddly folkloric name and that was the start of the Roe Deers project. 
While most of the electronic music follows a clear and often monotonic pattern, you never know what you will get from Roe Deers. Liudas and Oskaras tend to step out of what is commonly acknowledged as a standard formula of success, but it doesn’t make them distant from their audience. Roe Deers employ all shades of love in their shows so that the only response you can give them is dance.

DJ, producer from Iasi, Romania. Andrew Red Hand has been named by Aaron-Carl ''the romanian Underground Resistance himself''. Considered as ''the romanian Detroit electro / techno pioneer'' (Igloo Magazine), he is signed to some legendary labels from Detroit such as Matrix Records, Twilight 76 Records, Databass Records, Detroit Techno Militia, Detroit Underground, Cratesavers International, Visillusion, Detroit Techno Records, 6ONE6 as well as Holland's iconic MOS Recordings. Also Melodymathics, Bass Agenda Recordings, Remote Influence, Land Of Dance. He remixed Detroit's Santonio Echols, Thomas Barnett, Six Foe, T.Linder of Detroit Techno Militia, DJ Spade Tha Specialist etc. His music, sometimes compared to Detroit, fuses the soul of his town Iasi with the futuristic electro, techno, acid sound, being characterized, by a free, no compromise exploration of electronic music. 
His dj sets are filled with music that stands the test of time, from the pure sound of Detroit electro & techno, to the raw Chicago acid house, timeless classics and some other international cutting-edge electronic music too.

Beginnings
The name Anthony Rother first appeared in Germany's vibrant electro scene with his first two releases, "Sex With The Machines" (1997) and "Simulationszeitalter" in 2000. In 1998, the producer from the city of Offenbach set up his own label platform "Psi49Net". With the release of his virtual electro-pop project "Little Computer People" (2001), followed by the album "Hacker" (2002), Rother firmly cemented his reputation as an important proponent of the electronic dance music scene.

LPs & Tracks
In 2004, Rother's "Datapunk" label took over the reigns from "Psi49Net", heralding a realignment of his previous sound. Both his "Popkiller" album and "Super Space Model" (2006) were released to widespread acclaim from critics and the public. With the dawn of his newly coined term "moderntronic", Rother in 2007 embarked on a different route in his exploration of the symbiosis of electro and techno. 2008 then marked the release of Anthony's first fully digitally produced album, "My Name Is Beuys Von Telekraft". In 2010, Rother released "Popkiller 2", the sequel to the first Popkiller album both in terms of the logical progression of familiar motifs and as a retrospective of his own musical development since the first album. With a run of CDs released on the Frankfurt-based label Fax Records – including "62 Minutes on Mars", one of the label's fastest selling releases – Rother revealed the more experimental side of his oeuvre. May 2012 sees the release of Anthony's two newest tracks "Grid Stripper" (including a video track) and "Ape Machine" on his Datapunk imprint. 

Live
In addition to DJ performances at home and abroad, Rother continues to advance his hardware-based live activities. Using machines operated in real time, he has performed countless renditions of his live set at big-name events around the world. 2012 will see Rother debut his newest live concert format. Working closely with video and graphics artists, the new stage show will feature a form of dramaturgy that focuses more on the interaction of music and visuals. Both musically and visually, the two-hour live set bridges the worlds of art and club culture.

Mixes and Remixes
Ever since the start of his career in 1997, Anthony Rother has also managed to make a reputation for himself as a co-producer and remixer, working with some of electronic dance music's most notable artists. Besides projects with ex-Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos, Rother has repeatedly co-produced and remixed Sven Väth (both on his albums "Contact" and "Fire" and for countless tracks and 12"s). He has been a long-term production partner to Munich-based DJ Hell, including work on Hell's LP "Teufelswerk" (2009). Other work includes remixes for artists like Nena, Tiefschwarz, Ellen Alien, Thomas Schumacher and AUX-88 from Detroit in the US.

Jackie House is the alter-ego of Jacob Sperber one of the founding members of Honey Soundsystem. She has been a fixture on the San Francisco dance-music circuit for the last decade alongside touring the world with her buddies in the Honey crew. Aside from a speckling of singles, remixes, and mixtapes, Jacob runs the Honey Soundsystem record label alongside the now defunct Discaire Records. Part archivist, part activist he has used his various outlets to celebrate the rich history of dance-music and to fight for equality.

THE MIX:
Growing up in California in the days of turntablism and IDM I never thought the day would come that the two would align and with such incredible results. This mix is as much an homage to the day I moved 3 blocks from the apartment DJ Shadow made Entroducing to the day my CD copy of Oval - Systemisch got a scratch in it from repeated listens. From Soulection to Daybre to Q-Tip, I strung together this 70 minute mix with a lot of disparate compadre in mind. A friendship letter of sorts to a crew of people who all now live in far-off places but will certainly think of each other when they take the trip down this recording. 

Drowning in a 124 BPM world, making this mix was like a year of yoga on my ears.

@dannydaze has proven incredibly hard to pin down since he first emerged. After starting down a path that very quickly took him to the best clubs in the world but off the back of a sound that wasn't really his, he has managed to rewrite perceptions. After deciding to do things his own way, at his own pace, he is now known for what he really loves: techno, electro and IDM. Just recently he continued his collaborative work with Brazilian RHR on four dark, gritty and evocative cuts on OmniDisc, and has more music on the way soon on Schematic Records. 

This mix hints at what to expect from that EP, says Danny. "Due to the current conditions, I decided to go with chill zone session for this one mixed live with a bunch of the styles that influenced me over the last 20 years. Went a bit more trip-hop/IDM/electro with it which points to the direction the upcoming EP and album later in the year. Hope everyone has a nice week." So strap in for two freewheeling hours of interplanetary sonics, churning rhythms and otherworldly cinematics that will start your week right.
