Italian mainstay Davide Squillace makes his debut on Rebellion with Drive Good. Teaming up with UK regular Nolan, the single features French talent Jaw on vocals and US stalwart Rick Wade as remixer.

Nolan spoke about how the release came together, describing how: “Davide and I haven’t actually met in person, but we’ve created a few monster tracks together. He sent a few projects to me when I was in Brighton and I ripped out the rawest sounds to start turning them into tracks. We decided Drive Good was ready for some top line vocals from Jaw, who took the track to a whole other level.”

The seven-minute cut gets underway swiftly, with hard-edged kick hat pairings cosying up next to warming chord tones to start. Bleep like synths soon open into Jaw’s enchanting vocal offerings before Rick Wade’s remix takes on a softer edge, manifesting as a soothing dance cut with clear Detroit influences.

DJ and producer Davide Squillace has achieved a lot in his career as resident of the famed Circoloco and part of the supergroup Better Lost Than Stupid with Matthias Tanzmann and Martin Buttrich. He is also expanding on his production repertoire with releases on the likes of Cadenza, Kaoz Theory, No19, Moon Harbour and Hot Creations. Straddling house, disco, breaks and prog with a unique twist and an eye for the underground, Nolan is making serious waves with key releases on Mobilee, LNOE, Bedrock, Circus, Kittball, MadTech, Crew Love, Get Physical, OFF, Gruuv & Connaisseur Recordings.

French singer-songwriter Jaw is a prolific vocalist in electronic music, making regular appearances on Set About, BluFin and many more besides. Michigan-favourite Rick Wade has been a leading figure in Detroit house for decades, having been active as a producer since 1994. His music has found a welcome home on Shall Not Fade and Open Sound in recent times, a testament to his keen-ear for production.

Longstanding Spanish talent Dennis Cruz achieves a career milestone this October with the release of his debut album, Roots. The ten-track LP draws inspiration from Cruz’s life experiences, resulting in a body of work that encapsulates the sounds and musical styles that have led him to where he is today.

Dennis spoke on what this moment represents, stating: "I wanted to work on a broader project, the cornerstone of my artist career, and this is what Roots is. The album is a convergence of influences taken from music that I've been listening to all my life, from funk, salsa, and flamenco to house and disco. I am so happy this project could finally come to life. I want to thank the several friends and artists that worked on it with me; Damian Lazarus for believing in it from the beginning and helping it reach the world on Crosstown Rebels." - Dennis Cruz

The journey begins with La Ratonera, a Spanish-themed cut that sets the tone with a warm underlying groove and P. Rivas’ enchanting vocal hooks. Los Tamales soon arrives, released as a July single ahead of the album, before Good Old Days completes proceedings on the A Side. A collaboration with minimal-maestro Ian Ludvig, the result is a stripped-back dancefloor number that feels ripe for the late night hours.

Ecua takes charge on the B Side, upping the tempo with resonant kick-hat combos and plenty of flamenco-inspired swing. What U Doing comes next, as Leo Wood’s harmonic vocal tones perfectly complement Cruz’s hard-edged, groove-led bassline, opening neatly into Bend. The three-minute piece showcases the Spaniard’s love of jazz and salsa throughout.

We’re treated to another piece of teamwork on Go Down, with iconic Jamaican singer Lee Scratch Perry featuring on top of a low-slung, rhythmic backbone, paving the way for Ahora Todo Va (Dub). Josh Butler’s influence can be felt right from the get go, as four-four drum patterns converge on spicy, latin-fuelled lyrical samples.

Te Quiero Cantar acts as the penultimate track, bringing us more funky, house-driven flavours before Back Again brings things to an ebullient close. The final collaborative offering with Iuliano Mambo takes us on a journey through punchy percussion and swinging synth build ups, rounding off an eclectic body of work that looks set to light up dancefloors across the world this year.

Roots showcases the many facets of Dennis Cruz’s production capabilities. The album embodies the life experiences that have defined his career; the moments of progression and elation, from fresh-faced up-and-comer to established musical presence. At the heart of the LP lies an inherent Spanish theme - a nod to the country and culture that Dennis calls home. It’s playful, joyful and built to make people dance, three traits personify this talented producer today.

Gareth Cole is the ambitious Brit who has been carving a name for himself as a purveyor of fine house and techno both as a producer and DJ. 

Here he signs up to Steve Bug’s Sublease Music for three slick and impactful slices of deep, techy house. First up is Signal, a low-slung groover with hypnoic keys, and a thick, rounded bottom end driving the track forward. 

On Courage, the energy is amped somewhat, with plenty of space thanks to the dubby, minimal production. 

Gareth notes “I was very inspired by music and DJ sets from Guy J - there is this sort of hypnotic groove which locks you into the vibe and music. I designed a really nice lead stab on Sylenth which is my go-to synth and it repeats during the majority of the tune and then other elements play around it to keep it interesting”. 

The final track is On The Edge, delving deep into Cole’s roots in techno - slowly building on the groove with extra elements to create a hypnotic, techy atmosphere sure to set dancefloors alight this summer.

Calussa & Malóne serve up a superb new version of Dennis Ferrer's famously feel-good 'Sinfonia Della Notte' from 2017.

Calussa & Malóne are Cuban artists based in Miami who together founded the Hurry Up Slowly label and have a seductive low slung house sound. They have teamed up to great effect before on attention-grabbing Afro house tunes for the likes of ABRACADABRA Records and now bring their knack for summer gems to Get Physical Music.

The original of this track was a much-hyped hit that was heard everywhere at the time of release. Calussa & Malóne bring their own unique stylings to it and flip it with a contemporary twist that retains the vibe of the original. Specifically, the melody phrase remains and brings light and soul as it ripples up and down the scale over fresh drums. There's an irresistibly sun-kissed feel to this version with big fills, vamping chords and well-treated vocals all bringing plenty of colour and character.

Calussa & Malóne's 'Sinfonia' is already an early shout for one of this summer's most essential anthems.
