Originally written in 2006, I completely overhauled it in 2008 to reflect my state of mind at the time. This new version is slower and has a much richer string section than the original, as well as a more complex and varied melody.

Opening Titles

This is a quick recreation I made of the theme from Flashpoint. It's missing the intro but it's got the core melody. I followed the feel I wanted rather than exactly duplicating the original. I intend to add to this and really expand it into a fuller piece.

Flashpoint Theme

This is me going back to an old Doctor Who theme of mine and redoing it from the ground up. The previous version heavily relied on samples (Howell bassline, Derbyshire melody). This contains my own bassline and melody, and the half-assed snare drums have been removed as well. This is a work in progress but I like where it's going. Some of the mixing needs help… not all of it has transferred over well from the original.

Doctor Who - Beyond the Farthest Star

This is a version of the Doctor Who theme that I started a while back. I don't believe it's finished, but I got to be so happy with its progress that I simply stopped working on it for fear of overloading or breaking it.

UPDATE 2011-12-28: I finally got the inspiration I needed to make some significant improvements to it. I changed a lot of the orchestration around and extensively remastered the whole thing. I'll probably continue adding and tweaking.

Doctor Who - Epic 2011

This is an alternate version of my Epic 2011 theme that I'm currently working on. I've significantly increased the presence of the brass after the bridge and towards the end of the track. It gives the mix a significantly more epic feel, but I'm not sure if that's the direction I want to take it. "Epic" might be in the name, but my goal is never to make a Doctor Who theme too over the top.

Doctor Who - Epic 2011 (Alternate)

Work in progress. After going the orchestral route last time, I decided to go back to basics for this mix. The ultimate goal is to create something haunting and memorable like the original Delia Derbyshire version of the theme. I expect to continue updating it, but the project is already getting a little overwhelmed.

Bassline could do with a little work. I want it to sound less synthy and more physical, like the Derbyshire bass. Really pleased with that melody, though…

<strong>Update 2012-01-08:</strong> Updated version of Something New just posted to SoundCloud. The electric bass has been boosted in the mix and some overdrive has been applied to the melody to bring it more to the front of the mix and give a more aggressive leading quality.

I just bought a new synth. You know what I do first with new synths. This is u-he's Diva. After Zebra, I bought it almost sight unseen. I don't regret it. Also, I played all this in live, with several drinks in me.

I was asked a couple of months ago to provide a new version of the Doctor Who theme for Doctor Who Online’s WhoCast, which is the most widely-listened Doctor Who podcast in the world. It was a privilege to be asked to contribute a theme for them. I was given a rough idea of what they wanted (a modern feel but with nods to past themes) as well as some specific requests (the brass intro from the newest theme, among others). I set to work and this is the full-length version of what I came up with. Time from conception to completion was about two and a half months, and I am pleased with the result. There are a couple of variants on my web site as well, including the opening and closing version as well as a “classic mix” that drops the modern influences such as the strings and percussion.

On the eve of Murray Gold's latest butchering of the Doctor Who theme, as a small Christmas gift to those interested, I put together a remixed version of my "The Eleventh Hour" theme from 2010. It features reduced emphasis on Murray Gold's orchestral pomp, melodic changes, and a new bassline recorded on my brand new Prophet '08 (a Christmas gift to myself).
