Danny Trotter - Higher State

Old school roots started in 1997.

My journey into music mixing began in 1997, armed with nothing more than two tape decks. I’d pause, record, and splice sections of tracks to create my own mixtapes, DIY in the truest sense. That early spark quickly turned into a deeper love for the craft, and I eventually picked up my first pair of turntables: KAM belt drives. At the time, I was fully immersed in the hardcore scene, inspired by legends like DJ Brisk, DJ Sy, and Unknown for their scratching techniques and high-energy performances.

As my skills evolved, I saved up and made the jump to Technics 1210s. The difference was game-changing. The precision of the direct drive decks allowed me to truly lock in beat-matching and fine-tune pitch control, a turning point in my growth as a DJ.

Over the years, I’ve embraced digital controllers and modern setups, they’re amazing tools, but my heart still leans toward the raw feel of traditional mixing.

I’ve explored a wide range of genres, from Trance and Techno to Happy Hardcore. I’ve never limited myself to one style, believing that versatility deepens creativity. Still, nothing quite compares to the energy and spirit of UK Hardcore. That’s where the fire really lives.
